NVR: cats and caps
It's been a long time since I posted an NVR. But as my cat (formerly named Bunny, now renamed the more masculine and appropriate Hunter S. Thompcat) is currently playing like the crazy psychotic nutcase that he is, I feel compelled to ask you a question...
Does your cat also love WATER BOTTLE CAPS?!
This is my cat's FAVORITE toy. He bats it around on the hardwood floor like it's a hockey puck (of course, this usually occurs at about 5am in the morning when my dog and I are trying to sleep). Then he carries it around in his mouth (sometimes in such a way that it looks like there is a big white circle in his mouth), walks around like this, let's it drop out of his mouth (as if it wasn't he who dropped it--it just magically appeared there), and then proceeds to shuffle it around the house some more, bouncing it off the walls, etc., until it gets stuck under a closed door or the couch. It makes quite the racket.
...You know, he's giving me the evil eye right now--I think he knows I'm writing about him.
BTW, he has plenty of other toys. But nothing quite so exciting to him as a simple bottle cap. It's about the only low maintenance thing about him. ;D
All this talk about small plastic objects being carried around in cats' mouths gives me the willies... they could CHOKE!! eeek (can you tell I'm a mom with small kids :D)

I've actually been waiting for someone to lecture me on the wastefulness of buying plastic water bottles. But everyone has been so polite! ;D I reuse/refill the water bottles several times (from a gallon) before I throw them in the recycle bin. No, this still isn't the most convenient and eco-friendly method--I know. I would filter the tap water, but it's SO cloudy with I don't know what, that I simply don't trust it, even filtered (plus it doesn't taste good). I've only lived here about a month--the tap wasn't so bad at the last place I lived. I think I'm going to buy a filter anyway, because I worry about my dog and cat drinking that crap water.
In terms of my cat choking on a water bottle cap--I think it's a bit too big for him to swallow. But I have seen him eat thin hair bands (as well as small pieces of lint and strings from clothing), which freaks me out and worries me to no end.
My mom always said "they're playing hockey puck!" ;D
My cats right now are into anything in a plastic bag. Possibly since we're in the midst of home repairs and there are all sorts of important little pieces come in little plastic bags. It's not unusual for us to be trying to assemble something and be looking for part C to go into slot A only to find one of the cats trotting around with it in their mouths!

SB, consider having the tap itself replaced. The water from our bathroom basin always tasted weird, but the kitchen taps were fine. Ultimately the tap in the bathroom had to be replaced, and voila, the wierd taste was gone. It must have been made of poor quality metal and rusted or corroded or something. The cloudiness Could be your water supply, or it could be something gross inside the tap itself.

Thank you for the excellent suggestion Yabbit. :)
