ignorant radio talk show host spreads prejudice and misinformation about autism
This is a new low. In general, I dislike talk shows, but I am so angry about this!!!! There is enough misinformation and misunderstanding about autism without people spewing this kind of crap!!!
I'd really like to know what "reading" he's done to support there being no definitive medical diagnosis for autism. While it is true that there is no blood test (which is in the works, by the way, at least for some kinds of autism), there is at least 60 years of solid behavioral and social research!!!
EEERERRRRRCHGHGHGHG!!!! Perpetuating fear of difference and prejudice against people with disabilities just infuriates me.
I want this guy to spend HALF AN HOUR in my classroom so he can see the kinds of struggles these bright, loving, interesting people are up against already without his BS.
He got what he was looking for:
"But he said he was proud to have prodded discussion on the subject, and planned to give over his entire show on Monday — broadcast live from Northern California from 3 to 6 p.m., Pacific time — to parents and other callers who wished to disagree with him and to educate him."
His show on Monday will probably be his highest rated ever.
Hile Michael Savage! Aw... the vile stench of conservative talk radio.
The scary thing is that my dad used to say about Rush Limbaugh, "He's kind of a jerk - but you know, he is right." Really? About what?
He should be working for Bush, or IS working for him. *has had her fill of idiocy for a lifetime...and at 22*
I saw this on PPK. I can't even think about it without working myself into an angry mess. So disgusting.
Mike savage might not be the most popular but he is by far the most vile and venom-filled of all the Clearchannel radio hosts. Don't worry, a bunch of people are pulling their sponsorship and a bunch of local stations have stopped carrying his show. He's getting his just desserts.
I have had some time to cool off from this now. I wrote him a letter expressing my EXTREME disappointment in his comments and offered to have him come visit my classroom any time. I also asked for copies of or links to the "research" he has read.
I still think that it is disgusting that he would seek to heighten his ratings (if in fact that was his goal) by picking on some of the members of society who are least able to defend themselves.
I agree that it is a load of bull, but it just worries me how many people listen that may have been neutral on the subject before and now agree with him.
Good thing I can count on ya'll to counter any of those opinions in people that you meet!
