He is the Hell's Kitchen guy, isn't he? Raising up him a serial killer, I think. His wife should cook what she wants and let him go to hell!
>:(
also nice that he'd disown his daughters if they dated a vegetarian boy (or something to that effect). it still amazes me how threatened some people are by people who don't eat meat.
Hm! I've never seen any of his shows...so I've never really had an opinion of him. I know that quite a few people here watch/enjoy his shows, so it will be interesting to see their opinions on this. I don't know about the legitimacy of that site/news since I have no experience with it.
The monster reveals himself! GR is already infamous on UK tv (which we get by satellite.) If you took "the F word" out of his vocabulary he couldn't talk.(Same guy who was amazed when the same son was suspended for one day in school for having a dirty mouth. Learned at daddy's knee, most likely). He thinks he's the God of Cooking. And yet he's afraid of dishes with no meat in them!
I tried to watch some show he did with some other TV chefs and it was like perverse group therapy; we invite you to do your best and then tell you how terrible it is. If you're not reduced to tears by our innate superiority, we will crush you physically!
But surely if you own more than 1 restaurant, you can't cook in them all. I begin to think that the old maxim holds true...those who can, cook. Those who can't have TV cooking shows.
Paula Deen. I rest my case. :-D

That's a good one! But... there are some exceptions. Nigella Lawson? Now she's a classy lady - wouldn't eat a bite of her food, but she makes cooking look sooo sexy.

*Pshh* You know its her accent/voice
Personally...I like Gordon Ramsey. It would be great if his attitude was different but honestly none of us has the right to judge other's lifestyle choices.
On his show Kitchen Nightmares he did try to help a woman with a vegetarian restaurant in France. He offered her the same help/advice and worked just as hard as he did with the other omni restaurants profiled on his show. It was the woman's extremely laziness that kept it from being a success.
Every time one instance or another of animal cruelty reaches the news, it makes me think about how screwed up our relationship with animals is that we condone certain kinds of cruelty but no others. Like, if the kid hadn't pulled the head off, but had broken it's neck the "normal" way, no one would give it a second thought. Cruelty occurs every second of every day and no one bats an eye until it involves a cute bunny.
It's also troubling that a father would say he'd never forgive his daughter for dating a vegetarian. What huge offense does a vegetarian commit against you, Gordan Ramsey? Other than making you feel uncomfortable deep down about your own eating habits?
Nigella Lawson is a babe. I have a girl crush on her, barring her love of meat. :iloveyou:
Well, I am one of the few that really like Gordon Ramsey. I have seen specials on him and he does much to help abused women. Toys that are given to his kids because he is a celebrity are brought to children's shelters and organizations because his kids don't need more and he has taught his kids that other kids are less fortunate. They all bring the toys to the places. I think his mom was abused by his father so helping women is dear to his heart.
Yes, he swears like a son of a b*itch. Not when he has been on Ellen or other talk shows. Not when he is at home with his family. His wife is a school teacher. That is his TV persona.
I also watched Ramsey's Nightmares when he busted his a** to help a lady get her vegetarian restaurant on track. The lady was so lazy and couldn't care less that it made him crazy. He helped create new dishes and really tried. She didn't even care to keep her kitchen clean.
He is the Simon Cowell of kitchens except he swears a lot. The clips at him at home with his kids were so endearing. Not one bad word. Not one bad word on Ellen. TV persona. Hell's Kitchen cracks me up. Total tough love like Simon. You can't be a great chef or an amazing performing artist without honest criticism. He, just like Simon are preparing people for the real world. His average employee in his restaurants stays about 12 years ( I think that is what he said). That is amazing in the restaurant world. if he was a horrible b*stard, they wouldn't stay that long.
It is so easy to criticize celebrities. Why, because they are in our face and we watch the shows. Nigella is no better. She is a classy lady but she still loves meat. Her show is a cooking show. Gordon's are clean up your disgusting filthy dirty kitchens because you will make people truly sick and learn to be tough if you want to run a restaurant.
The bunny incident is very sad. Very sad! They were hunting for food.
I am no more disappointed in him than I am with all of my family and friends that buy packaged meat. The cows, chicken, lambs, turkeys, and fish that our families and friends eat are no different than the bunny. Actually they are worse off because the bunny got to live free until his unfortunate end. The food our loved ones eat has been tortured since birth. That makes them worse!
Gordon Ramsey is on a path just like we all are. If he doesn't want his daughters dating vegetarians, that is what he believes. Yet I have seen him talk about his daughters and I bet of one if them came home with a vegetarian, he would welcome him into their home (they are way to young to date now). Why, because he absolutely loves his kids and wife. He might make a few off comments or jokes. My dad still does with me but he has never made me feel guilty in my choices.
Gordon Ramsey, like all celebrities are always in the public eye and the media only lets us hear what they want us to hear. None of us know if at the end of his comments, he laughed and said, seriously, if my daughter fell in love with a vegetarian, I would just have to cook something different.
We are all so quick to judge. He obviously has compassion because when on Ellen, he did not bring up all he does for abused women and giving the excess toys to children. She did and made him talk about it.
As far as I can remember, his dad was a very abusive alcoholic.
Oh, on talk shows he is very soft spoken.
Nigella, and all the others cook meat. All of the meat they use came from a tortuous life. They are no better.
If I have to hate Gordon Ramsey, then I have to hate all of my family and friends. I much prefer Gordon Ramsey to the Brits that think fox hunting is fun.
OK, I am finished. Sometimes we have to look beyond the TV persona and actually look at the person. Very hard to do with celebrities.
Veg On!

(The way he speaks in his shows notwithstanding......)
Golly. Since I hardly watch any TV or read magazines, my sources of information are limited. I heard one bad thing about GR (an article posted on VW) and decided from that that he's a bastard. If that story were true, he tricked a vegetarian into eating meat and then laughed and made fun when the person found out (and was undertandably almost sick).
Ehhh, considering how little info I had, perhaps... perhaps the situation was sensationalised and overexaggerated. I don't know. On the other hand, it's still possible that GR *can be* an insensitive prick at times. If he did what that article said, then hell yeah. But maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge anyone on so little information. :-\

+1 thanks for writing how exactly how i feel about it...well said!
Di, your posts are long! :D
Interesting info, Di...but it makes me wonder all the more; if Mr Ramsey was the victim of an abusive, abrasive father, he knows how rotten it makes people feel--why cultivate that as his TV persona? Issues, much?
My own father was obnoxious, abrasive and foulmouthed to his own family. I would never treat people that way, not even "acting a part", and particularly not for money, in a situation where a lot of people would think that was "the real me." But I guess it takes all kinds.
JMHO
I can respect that everyone has a different path in life, but I don't think that exempts him or anyone else from judgment of his actions or attitudes. I think we all need to be evaluating our actions all the time. Like, suppose my grandmother grew up in a time when racism was rampant, and so now she made racial slurs all the time. That doesn't excuse her actions. It explains them, but it doesn't make them less hurtful or more OK. Before I went vegan, even when I was vegetarian, I participated in animal cruelty every dang day because I didn't understand the truth about milk and eggs. Again, that explains my behavior, but doesn't make my actions acceptable. I wish someone had called me on it sooner. I think it's good to say "I believe it is wrong for this person to committ this action because it harms x, y, and z," without saying "This person is a bad person." People can do a lot of good things and a lot of bad things, but the good doesn't undo the bad. So I guess I am somewhere in the middle here.
Di, your posts are long! :D
Yeah, they are! Not to worry though.........I will be off line for a couple of months! :) Of course, when I come back they will probably be longer! ;D
Veg on in the next couple of months!

I used "bad" the way someone says my "bad" when they make a mistake. The 's is a possessive in this case. I guess some people are taking it that I think Gordon Ramsey is a bad person. I reserve judgment on his overall quality as a person.

I never said I wanted you to be offline! No way! :(
I am not sure. I see those advertisements for Hell's Kitchen, and a lot of the time he has those poor people reduced to tears by the mean things he says. That is wrong to treat people like that. People make mistakes, what is wrong with saying: "you did a good job overall, but I think next time it would be better if..."
I don't watch those shows because he seems like such a jerk.

AllyChristine, I need some time off for personal stresses. Time to get things done and not be so addicted to my computer. I love this board. I need to get stuff done and spend way too much time reading all the posts.
My name is Di, I am a VegWeb addict! Have been for probably 12 years or more!
I am fighting some demons right now (not bad ones) and have to take care of me. Then I will be back.
So to all, Happy Birthday if your birthdays fall in my time off. Happy birthday to me as my birthday will also fall in that time.
Not to worry. I will be back with long, passionate, opinionated posts...but a happier person when I return and have accomplished some of my goals.
You are such a sweet person AC! On a funny note I am probably getting a hedgehog in November or December. Her name will be Hannah Rose. Hannah Rose Hedgehog. I guess that will make her.....
Her Royal Highness! ;D
Veg On to all of you!
We can change the world one step at a time. On Sunday, I went to a doggy pool party. There was a Polish man who is old school. I had to listen to why we should eat meat and how I am not getting the protein I need. That animals have been raised to eat. I didn't want to be the bummer at the party as all the dogs were having fun. I said, my iron is amazing and I choose not to eat animals. He continued on. I said until the day North Americans treat their slaughter house animals with kindness, I don't want to have this discussion. He continued on. Again, didn't want to be a kill joy. I said I don't judge you on what you eat, please don't judge me on what I eat.
The host of the party is a chef for TV programs, commercials and movies filmed in Toronto. He likes his meat. He quietly said, I like meat but.... Yes, our practices are barbaric and Di can absolutely get all her protein from plant sources. YEAH! He also said, next when we have a BBQ, I will gladly put a veggie burger on the grill for you.
The subject was then changed.
To all of you, have a great amazing summer. If you don't hear from me in the fall, the sharks I am diving with in the Bahamas in August thought I was a tasty vegetarian! :-D
Veg On!
Enjoy your summer!
Hugs and love,
Di

If you watched the shows you'd that those people deserved to be kicked in the @ss. Considering that the grand prize is $250,000 and the position of head chef of a restaurant you'd think these people would be highly skilled. That's not the case. They send out raw and undercooked meat, way overly salty food, runny creme brulee and other remedial mistakes you'd expect a trained chef not to make. What is also good is the challenges he gives to the group. They might have to taste 10 items and take a guess at what they are to test their pallet. You would not beleive the amount of them that can't tell what a melon tastes like or celery. For some of these people who supposedly have been chefs for 10-15 years it's amazing that they can only get 2 out of 10 things right.
He gets highly emotional and on a swearing binge when the contestants make the mistakes that can make people sick. Believe me...some of the people need that wake up.
I've become addicted to Hell's Kitchen and the meat going to the tables regularly comes back raw. Yum. I can see why he'd be worried about people giving up meat. His wife must know what she's gotten herself into in that marriage. I think she has moxy, so I'm still pulling for the one vegetarian meal a week.
