Cow escapes slaughter and is found under church
‘’A cow has escaped from an abattoir, leaping down a manhole and fleeing for a mile through a town's underground sewage system, before being captured in northern France…’’

It ended up stuck under a church after a mile of walking through the sewage system and was caught after the vicar reported hearing moos.
Getting it out of there apparently was impossible without injuring it badly enough that it would have to be put down anyway. So despite its effort to get away it still ended up being killed (no-win situation for the poor cow).
This sort of thing has probably happened before, but I wonder if it realized that it was about to be killed and was escaping danger or if it just happened to fall through the manhole and was walking around?
And I can't help but feel really sorry for it. Being put down after sustaining severe injuries while being stuck in a narrow sewage pipe probably wasn't what it expected life would be like away from the slaughterhouse.
I got excited at the first part of this article, but bummed out when I found out it ended up being killed. >:(
This reminded me of the time I was driving to Rochester and a PIG ran out of the cornfield and across the road. I almost hit it! (But I didn't). I was hoping it was an escapee from Hormel...
When I saw this thread I thought the cow had hidden in the basement or something...talk about "sanctuary!" But it's a bummer.
