Superstar VegWebber of the Week: permanentgrin!

This week's Superstar VegWebber is permanentgrin (http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=profile;u=55813)! Not only does she have the sweetest name on VegWeb, she's an awesome Aussie! That's two points up in my book. Plus, an adorable baby and an adorable dog?? This lady rules! Plus, her three people she'd have to dinner is perfect (in any variation, the famous people or the VW'ers!). Thanks to
permanentgrin for making VegWeb a better, funnier, cooler, awesomer, more Aussie place to be!

VegWebber since? March 10, 2006 (although I was coming here for recipes before then)

Vegetarian, Vegan or ? work in progress (ovo-lacto veg)

Where do you call home? Newcastle, NSW, Australia

What do you do when you're not on VegWeb? I'm a stay-at-home-mom with an 11 month old baby and 2 1/2 year old puppy.  So I play with them, go to the dog park, cook/bake as much as possible, and occasionally clean up.

Do you have blog or website? just facebook

Do you tweet? nope

One unique thing we should know about you?  When I was 8 years old I made up an entire language just to talk to my first cat.  She died when I was 24, and I still spoke to her in that language.  However, I didn't use it for any other cats, even though we had 5 other cats during her lifetime.

What’s the best thing about being vegan? (if you are!) I'm not, but I would have to say the incredibly diverse range of foods that vegans eat.  (My dad recently tried rice noodles for the first time and thought they were SO exotic.  Poor omnis have no idea what they're missing out on).

Favorite romantic recipe on VegWeb? Vegan Brownies (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=23281.0) tend to make people mouthgasm.  Does that count?

Favorite recipe on VegWeb to make for non-vegans to show them how amazing vegan food can be? Vegan Brownies, again.  Or the Carrots and Nothing Else Cake (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=13696.0).  Really, any dessert recipe.  Everyone loves dessert.

Favorite healthy recipe on VegWeb? Wow, so many to choose from!  I love the Lentil Rice Salad (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=18137.0) and Orange Chicken Style Tofu (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=15978.0) with tons of vegs added.

One thing you wish you could make vegan but haven’t succeeded at yet?  I would love to be able to make good tortillas.

#1 Cooking secret/tip?  If you add something acidic to your onions (like tomatoes or lemon juice), they won't soften.  So cook the onions before adding acidic ingredients.  Also, fresh garlic tastes a million times better than the kind in a jar.

Best music to cook by?  I don't really listen to music while I cook, but you can't go wrong with 90s rock like Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Silverchair, etc.

Three people you'd most like to have dinner with?  Johnny Depp, Dr. House (yes, I know he's just a character...I don't care), and Seth MacFarlane.  Not all at the same time...that would be weird.  Or, any 3 VWers.

All time favorite restaurant?  The only vegetarian restaurant in Newcastle (therefore the only one I've been to) is Govinda's, a Hare Krishna cafe.  It's all you can eat for $10.  Love it.

French fries or ice cream?  Both (I've never had vegan ice cream though )

Soy milk, rice milk, almond milk?  I've only tried soy and I love it, but I would love to try almond milk

Tofu, tempeh, or seitan?  I really like all 3, but tofu is the one I use the most.

w00t for pg!  Congrats!

P.S., Speaking of snakes  ::) ... every time I see a pic of your baby I think it's a toy snake instead of a baby blanket.
