Taco Del Mar
I just wanted to praise this chain restaurant for its vegan option.
I was at the mall after seeing a movie and was wandering aimlessly to find something to eat when I remembered seeing Taco Del Mar on that PETA chain restaurant guide. I didn't see a vegan option on the menu, so I asked if the guacamole had sour cream in it. The guy said no, so I said I'd have a burrito and I'd love the guacamole on it. He replied with, "Began?" He's Hispanic and I remembered from my days of Spanish class that "v" is often pronounced like "b", so I said, "Vegan?" and he said, "Yes". I happily agreed and had a fairly decent burrito with guac, black beans, rice, tomatoes, lettuce, and hot sauce on a whole wheat tortilla.
The best part: their burritos are called "Mondo Burritos", so on my receipt, it said, "1 Mondo Vegan" and it cracked me up!
Yay for Taco Del Mar, yay for chain restaurants in malls offering vegan options and not just a vegetarian option loaded with dairy, and yay for 'mondo vegans'!

It's a little expensive, but the falafel burger & the black bean burger are really good & filling. I was not hungry all afternoon. The fries are not good & the portion is ridiculously small for the price. I always have my own tea, so I never get a drink.
There is also a Mexican restaurant in my town, Casa Alvarez, that makes the best tofu! They offer tofu tacos, tostadas & taco salad. Their refried beans are to die for. I really have to stress the no cheese part, but without dairy I can order a great vegan meal.
We should take time to drop the corporate offices of these establishments a note of appreciation.
How I wish they were veggie restaurants closer to me. I'd be there every weekend.
I SO agree about Taco Del Mar! There's one by my work. This is the only chain restaurant I've seen where they actually put the word "vegan" on the menu (online), so you know the rice and beans (and guac!) are safe! :) I hope it catches on!
Yummy! I had Taco Del Mar for lunch today, and it was DELISH!!!!! Sigh.. I love that place.. LOL!
I never heard of a Taco Del Mar, but "1 Mondo Vegan" makes me want to go find one!! That's awesome ;D
Well, we don't have a Taco Del Mar, but we do have a chain called Moe's Southwestern Grill and you can get Tofu as an option in your burritos, tacos and enchiladas! You do have to request that they leave off the cheese if you're a vegan, but that's easy enough. :)
Cumberland just got a Taco Del Mar. I'm so excited!

We used to have a Moe's! But then Izzo's overtook :( and doesn't have as many options, but it still has the vegetarian burrito. And Qdoba. I don't know why I'm excited about the Taco Del Mar, it's not like we're in need of more mexican food options.
I don't know if any of you live near a Mellow Mushroom, but I'm a big fan. They don't stare at you like you're a freak for asking for a pizza without cheese and they catch on quickly with their subs, if you ask for "no cheese" they'll also ask "butter? mayo?" and anything else nonvegan that might be on it. They have tofu and tempeh subs as well as like 1001 pizza toppings

Awww that they ask butter? Mayo? How I long to hear those words ;D because that's a veg-friendly restaurant if there ever was one.
