i live in cape town, south africa now and i haven't heard of any vegan places. the best option i've found is Quensh in observatory. it's organic vegetarian and has plenty of vegan options.
None actually in "MY city" but within 15 minutes of driving: Loving Hut, Wheel of Life, Native Foods, Veggie Grill, and Green's Cafe... Being in LA, CA would be even more awesome...
I do have a new fave restaurant, Thai Garden... It is not veg but they actually put a picture of a head of lettuce in front of all dishes that can be made veg :)
I live in Texas and we have a lot more veg places than most people would imagine, given the stereotypes. We actually have a huge Asian population around the Dallas area, so we have all-vegan Chinese and Korean places and multiple all-vegetarian Indian places, in addition to the all-vegan American food (http://www.spiraldiner.com/ and even a totally raw place. Plus, there's always Whole Foods.
Even when there are no veg restaurants, if the city is big enough, Asian food is often veg-friendly, although it can be hard to get a straight answer on ingredients, for sure. I think the best Vietnamese food I've ever had was in Lafayette, Louisiana - not famous for veg-friendliness.

Haha--around here that IS your city! As in, I drive 40 minutes to work, 1h15min to get groceries (each way). Within 15 minutes there is...a few fast food places. We're so sprawled out! (and not really much of a city, really).

Haha...you just wait! It's coming in a year. The countdown has begun.

Yay! Where are you moving? Have you decided? Meet me over in chit chat thread before we totally take over this post :)
Hell yes they are everywhere! I love So Cal!
Indeed, a growing number and too many to list in southern California.
There's a pizza place in Albany, NY called Little Anthony's where they sell "regular" pizza along with vegan pizza and they use Daiya.
I guess I'm lucky. There are at least five really good ones in Sacramento.
Vegan Plate in Studio City. My teen aged daughters could live off of their fried rice!
There aren't any 'regular' vegan restaurants that I know of in Utrecht, the Netherlands, but there are a lot of squats and former squats that offer very cheap vegan meals (usually around 3-4 euros) on one or more days a week, I could eat out vegan in one of them every day of the week if I wanted to. They are all volunteer-run and usually just offer a dish of the day, though one of them has a menu with multiple options. There are a lot of restaurants (especially various Asian, Ethiopian and Italian ones) that do offer vegan options, though the dishes are not usually advertised as vegan, you have to ask the staff. One of my favourite cafe's, Cafe Belgie, always has vegetarian options and usually a vegan option which is identified as such on the menu, and all * very * reasonably priced.
YES! Thankfully, my city (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) has TWO awesome and completely vegan restaurants:
MonDragon Coffeehouse and Bookstore- political bookstore, vegan restaurant and organic grocer run as a workers collective; and
Boon Burger Cafe- they quote themselves as being "Canada's first all vegetarian burger cafe" but in-store they boast that all their ingredients are vegan. They also offer eco-friendly bike delivery!
cool!

Not to make any other vegwebbers jealous, but there are 44 listings on Happy Cow for Los Angeles City alone and 74 for the LA area =D
You Californians are all lucky- except for having to worry about going broke from eating at all those places!
I'm pretty lucky restaurant-wise here in Berlin, too. There are I think 5 all vegan places and a bunch of vegetarian ones as well. 2 of the vegan restaurants serve the same fast food. And lots of ice cream shops have soy ice cream!
Boston, where I'm from, is steadily growing in the vegan restaurant department. I believe there are now 6 vegan restaurants there. Asian, pizza, home style, upscale... they've got it all. Except maybe diner or fast food.
We have three: Grass Root in Tampa, just across the bridge from me, Leafy Greens in downtown St. Pete and a raw vegan place, Vida de Cafe, on Pass-a-grille beach. We have a lot of veg-friendly places, but these are the only vegan ones.
We just got a Loving Hut not too long ago. I like it.

I was in Denver over the spring and went to watercourse... it was fabulous!! But I thought I remembered it serving dairy...?
My midwestern city is open to TWO vegan restaurants! They've both opened up since I've been here.
Cafe Seed: http://www.360kc.com/Restaurants/VegetarianVegan/CafeSeed.html (just a couple of items have honey, now that you mention it)
FUD: http://www.eatfud.com/
We also have an all-vegetarian restaurant that will veganize things plus a good selection of veg-friendly restaurants, from pizza (that serves vegan cheese AND vegan cupcakes) to Ethiopian.
PS-there's a great restaurant review on this forum somewhere!
