What do you all eat at Whole Foods?
I'd never been to a Whole Foods while vegan, and P and I went twice in Boulder, CO. I guess it's a "local" whole foods, where they specialize in local foods (like Justin's nut butters! from Boulder), but I don't know if all Whole Foods do that?
Anyway, one of the times we were there we wanted a ready to eat meal for dinner. I couldn't really find anything that looked satisfying/was vegan in the Whole Foods prepared meal type things. There was a fruit sushi type roll, and a kale salad....these veggie wraps that P wanted had honey in the dressing, and even the sushi had honey in it! I've never seen honey in sushi.
We ended up with a huge salad from the salad bar, which was delicious, but what else do you get? Sandwich from the deli? Something else?
I usually get the dumplings and pad thai from the hot bar....do they have a hot bar there? sometimes they have tofu curry, but the tofu is mushy....and once I saw BBQ tempeh, but it depends on what day you go....
Every whole foods is different. The one in Nashville isn't as vegan friendly with its meal selections, but the ones I went to in California always had a mediterranean section with falafels, olives, hummus, pita, tabbouleh, etc. I've also had some tofu and tempeh dishes, and lots of crazy side dishes. They even had Indian food selections there. I have only eaten at whole foods in nasvhille twice, and they didn't have a great selection of vegan stuff, but there was always at least one option.
p.s. they rotate dishes in and out, depending on day, week, month, etc.
I have been getting stuffed grape leaves from the cold bar along with a rice/veggie dish. My whole foods has a nice selection of vegan meat substitutes and veggies. The few WFM I have been to have a little section on the hot bar that are labeled vegan but all the stores are different. Read the signs to help figure out if it is ok to eat. Also, check the deli/pizza area for vegan pizza. It is not the best but in a pinch it will do. I'm not sure if you have a soup bar as well but there is usually one or two soups suitable for vegans. I think it just depends on the area you are in and the time you go. If there is not a big demand for vegan food, you will not see much.
ours always has several items on the hot bar like seitan/tofu with some type of veggies. Several veggies, the usual salad bar. Sometimes, I get veggie sushi, pot stickers, a slice of veggie pizza, sandwich. We also have some locally made raw desserts, cheeses, truffles. I used to go every sunday for dinner, then got kinda tired of going.
they just started carrying this at mine. it's thunder.

they haz without cheez?
Chana masala (from Indian hot bar)
Pita, falafel and hummus (from Mediterranean Bar)
Hail to the Kale salad
Couscous
Soups(changes but there are always vegan ones)
Grilled vegan chicken sandwich on vegan bread
Grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich
Vegan tuna sandwich(I sampled it and it tasted so much like real tuna that I didn't like it)
Herbed vegan chicken-like cutlet(forgot the name)
Vegan pizza
Vegan blueberry muffins
The Whole Foods near me has an entire Vegan Bar as well, but double check the ingredients. Once I saw a dairy ingredient on one of the food items.

I think they use Daiya cheese. The one by me does atleast. :)
I guess I should have mentioned that we were traveling, so it was just the one (two) time thing. I'm curious for future times, though. Now I know that it all depends on the market! We didn't look very closely at things other than in the prepared/packaged WF things. I'll know to look in the different delis. Mmmmm.
it all depends on where you are, what season it is and the day of the week. Some days there are 5 or 6 options... others you get your choice of one thing (aside from the salad bar, of course).
Ya they rotate. I've had vegan pizza there before. They did a really good tempeh salad, too.

This stuff is SO good! I like the smoked stuff. They also make a sour cream too that I'm looking forward to try. It will be trans-fat free unlike Tofutti.

I've had that!

I have had this. It's a crusted field roast something another. It has an incredible flavor, and I wish I knew a way to replicate it. Double, triple, infinity yum.

my little veg-thrift store just had these for 79 cents each! I don't know what they normally cost, but I thought that was a good deal. I like it heated up with some hot sauce in it. I still like my own Nooch sauces better though.

WHAT. geez, L2A. Never move away from that store. They are normally like 3.89.

That's my husband's absolute favorite! Also the vegan chicken salad when they have it - if your WF has a custom panini place, they may put that on your sandwich if you ask (has worked for us).
I live in Dallas, and our best WF has a custom cupcake bar (including multiple vegan options), pizza with Daiya, sometimes vegan tamales, a raw bar that's completely vegan too (which used to also have kombucha on tap until it became danger!alcohol!), and of course rotating stuff on the regular hot bar and ethnic food part, and a huge salad bar.
Is that crazy-unusual for a WF? I figure this is not the most vegan-friendly city, but people here do love spending money and eating...
If I get something from there, it's generally a huge salad or a general tso's tofu type thing. also...I have had that tofu cilantro thing everyone's talking about, and it's goood.
