Vitamins and vinegar test....

Hi guys,

I bought a new vitamin to try and I can't remember how long one should keep the vitamin in vinegar to test if it dissolves quickly enough to get benefits from it.

I think it was 1/2 hour.  I remember my old vitamin didn't even half dissolve after one hour.

Does anyone remember?

Thanks in advance.

Di

Well, I put my new vitamin  in vinegar and checked on it after 20 minutes.  Totally dissolved so I think it is safe to say, it is absorbable.

Yes, whoever mentioned the test in the first place I think said it had something to do with the acid in our stomachs.  Vinegar being similar.  If it didn't break down/dissolve in a certain length of time, we would not absorb a lot of the nutrients.

I was just reading an article by Dr. Weil and he suggests everyone should take a good multivitamin.  Just as a safeguard.

I bought Jamison's Super Vita-Vim.  The box says no animal testing.

This is it: http://www.jamiesonvitamins.com/en/products/prodvitamins_012.aspx

The one I had but haven't taken in ages just would not break down in vinegar.  After an hour, half of it was still there.  I bought it at a HFS.

I bought this at the drug store and asked the pharmacist if it was a good vitamin.  He said it was very good.

I am quite sick right now.  Bad cold for two weeks, bad cough.  Went to the doctor today and was put on heavy duty antibiotics.  She listened to my chest and as it didn't sound good at all, I was sent for a chest x-ray as she is worried about pneumonia (it is bronchitis or worse for sure).  As I was waiting for the prescription to be filled, I thought I would look at multivitamins because I read the article last night.

I was pleased to see the vitamin dissolve which means I did not throw my money away like I did the last time I bought vitamins.

Yes I have rambled but I am sick so I am allowed to...right?  :)

Here are Jamieson 's views on animal testing: http://www.jamiesonvitamins.com/en/advantage/no_animal_testing.aspx

Had I know this, I would have used more of their products over the years.  I have never bought their multivitamin before but have bought their vitamin C etc.  Not on a regular basis though.  I will support their products more in the future.

That's good to know about the vinegar.
About Jamieson's vitamins -- I like the zinc lozenges for if it feels like I'm getting sick and if I have a sore throat.

Hm... I dunno about the vinegar test. I would think if anything the vitamins would be more absorbable than the vinegar would indicate; the acid in your stomach (HCl) is much stronger than that in vinegar (acetic acid), and your stomach also churns when you digest (maybe that would mean to stir the vitamin around in the vinegar)?
