Review for VICE CREAM ;)
We just wanted to let you know that we finally got an ice cream maker and have tried our Vice Cream Cookbook out.
It's the best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Better than omni ice cream all the way!!!!!!!! SO RICH! We even made it organic! :o :D
We made Maple Walnut and no omni would know the difference!
I wish I could send you all some to taste!! It's sooooooo gooooooood!
We're making chocolate in a few hours!
The recipes are so easy I already know I can 'mess with' them and they'll turn out great! We love it!
thank you so much for reviewing this book! I've been wondering if I should buy it for quite a long time now and I'll just have to get an ice cream maker AND this book before summer really kicks in. Thanks so much ;)

I'm glad the review helped.
Vice cream is SO awesome!!!
MUST BUY ICE CREAM maker! :) We had the book for a month or two without the ice cream maker and once we finally got it we kicked ourselves!!
I have that book & have made a chocolate recipe. If I recall it called for almond flavoring. At the time I considered not adding that, but I did & the ice cream tasted like chocolate almond. Not that that is bad, but I really just wanted chocolate.
I have since bought an ice cream maker & tried a different recipe that has a rice syrup mixture in it & it was very good. A friend made the same recipe with the mint variation & it was divine & the most lovely shade of mint green! I think that I will make that next time.
BTW, I got an ice cream maker that uses ice & rock salt. It has a motor so I don't have to turn it myself, but if I were to do it over, I would get one of the ones you don't need rock salt for. Just my opinion. Also, I think it turns out better to make smaller batches.
I ordered the book...and VWAV too and um Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. I need a shot of inspiration or two or uh THREE!!!
Can't wait, have the freezer already.
It took me a while to buy Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World because I was afraid all I would do is bake cupcakes. Regular food bedamned. Fortunately, that didn't happen. HOWEVER, I really fear getting Vice Cream because ice cream is my food of choice. 'Twould (there I go again) be too dangerous. Wish I knew someone who had the cookbook and would make some for me just to taste. :P
There is a vegan ice cream blog, http://veganicecream.blogspot.com/, if you haven't discovered it. :)
half the book is "regular ice cream" half is "raw"
I wouldn't say there is any fancy stuff in the regular section...
all the regular recipes have the same blended base:
cashews
water
maple syrup (or your choice of sweetner, stevia etc.)
vanilla
I don't think any of the recipes have tofutti in them.
the raw recipes use dates as the sweetner in the base and I haven't made any of those yet.
we ran out of cashews and I subbed half cashews/half almonds for the chocolate icecream recipe it seemed to work just fine. though all cashews would have been creamier maybe.
He suggests using alcohol free extracts, since the alcohol inhibits the freezing process. In europe vanilla comes in a powdered form... so i'm good here. I think you can get the alchohol free kind at a HFS...?
I'm bumping this for us to start reviewing the recipes in here..... I need to get my ice cream canister in the freezer post haste so I can start churning out some of these recipes! ;D
oooo this inspired me. my birthday is coming up and my boyfriends been asking me what i want. i keep telling him nothing. but now i know. i want an ice cream maker!!! i already have this book and end up freezing the liquid parts so that i can make it in my vitamix. but to have an ice cream maker would be even more awesome.
