Trying tempeh for the first time!

I'm excited! It has wild rice mixed in with it. I'm not sure how to make it though... I'm serving it w/a cheesy broccoli/carrot/rice casserole.
I was thinking maybe putting some savory herbs on it and baking it? Maybe serving BBq sauce on the side? I'm not sure though.
What's your favorite way to make tempeh?
ughhh i hope u like it (it contains soy which i am sure u know)... i have never liked it when i have tried to cook it up myself... i tried frying it up both times... but i did like the baha tacos at native foods which were like a vegan version of a fish taco (the tempeh was battered and there was some tarter like sauce on it, cabbage, and salsa) i have seen some recipes on vegweb similar to this... good luck <3
3 words, baby. BUFFALO TEMPEH SANDWICH.
Thank me later.
p.s. I sucked at making tempeh and presumed to not like it until I had it prepared a way that was delicious. Now I know how to make tempeh succulent, juicy and completely irresistable.
BBQ for suree! I think what i did last time i made that was just make a ton of BBQ sauce and slice up the tempeh and cover it with the sauce and bake it. Mmm.
Don't give up on it if you don't like it the first time!

what temp and for how long did u bake it? i know i am doing something wrong
I tracked it down in the aimless thread, phew. Lots of pages.
There's also 2 other ideas on here too!
for the tempeh, oh there are so many options! i would recommend salisbury tempeh!
http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=7432.0 we love this recipe. we serve it with mashed potatoes/sweet potatoes and some sort of green veggie (like asparagus). it's so easy to make for someone who's just trying something easy but yummy with tempeh for the first time.
we've also made bbq tempeh (stolen from our beloved greenfresh, a health food store that randomly closed forever even though they seemed super popular all of the time!). cut tempeh into long strips, add your favorite vegan bbq sauce to coat all of the strips nicely. you don't need a lot of extra sauce, just enough to put a nice coat on it. put it in a baking dish and cover with foil. put in a preheated 350 -375 degree (f) oven for about thirty to forty five minutes. while it's cooking, sautee some onions and bell peppers (red, green, orange... mix it up!) that are cut into long strips. when it's all done, mix everything together. and that's IT! it's super yummy. we like ours cold, but that's because that's how we got it from greenfresh. so i make it either that morning or the night before we want to eat it and put it in the refrigerator.
you can also make buffalo wing tempeh. super easy. cut it like you did for the salisbury tempeh and then deep fry it until a little crispy. in a small pot heat up about a half to full cup of hot sauce (like franks or buy buffalo sauce, same sort of stuff) until it's warm. when you're done frying, drain on paper towels. then toss in warmed sauce. you heat the sauce because otherwise it will make your food cold. we've also done this with bbq sauce and liked it. but i made brittney find a different recipe since i don't like the idea of eating fried food EVERYDAY and that's how often she wanted this! we serve this with flashback mac n cheese http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=16227.0 and some sort of green veggie (broccoli goes well with it). it totally seems like a guy's football night meal and i bet beer would go if you liked it, but i hate beer so i'll pass.
^^ you need to add "butter" to your buffalo sauce. Franks red hot + Earth Balance = vegan buffalo!
Tempeh is my favorite! I like to marinate it in bragg's (or soy sauce), water, maple syrup, and liquid smoke, then fry or bake to make tempeh bacon. TLT's! Yum! The Tempeh Shepherdess Pie from Veganomicon is amazing! I also like to crumble and sautee it and make a sandwich salad by mixing it with vegenaise, mustard, relish, etc.
I seriously love tempeh.
P.S. Cams does too.
thanx guys great sounding suggestions!
I did not appreciate my baked bbq Tempeh
Yeah, I love tempeh in just about anything, and could eat it fried up by itself, but I think my peanutbutter tempeh recipe is a good starter because it covers up the tempeh flavor pretty well if you are trying it for the first time.

He speaks the truth.
someone else may have mentioned this, but if you steam the tempeh for 5-10 min before making it, that will make the taste a bit milder. I've done it with and without steaming and like it both ways, but I really like the pungent flavour, so steaming it might be the way to go if you don't want it too strong.
tempeh is amazing! enjoy

So, last night I went to Mellow Mushroom and ordered tempeh on my salad (as always). It wasn't until about halfway through that I noticed my tempeh was plain! They usually marinate it and it's really good, but that was not the case last night. I don't know what was up. I didn't complain, because it wasn't bad, but it was definitely weird. I guess they just made a mistake. It's a good thing I love tempeh...
1. I have a "moosewood cooks at home" cookbook, and I once made one of the fish-in-foil recipes with tempeh instead of fish. It was excellent.
2. Planet sub (a sandwich shop near me) subs tempeh in many of their sandwiches. I especially like the ones with tomato sauce, peppers, and onions.
3. My absolute favorite: TEMPEH RUBEN.
I like tempeh tacos and tempeh barbecue ribs.
