Substitute for Kashi Go Lean

Does anyone have a good substitute cereal for Kashi Go Lean - the "twig kind" (not "crunch")? I love it for its high protein content and is the only thing that I eat that is not technically vegan (honey).
i like Nature's Path cereals a lot. I believe most (all?) are vegan. I'm not that familiar with the type of cereal you're referring to, but some of those are sort of twig-esque and not heavy on the crunchy flakes.
For those not familiar, Kashi is essentially a cereal mix of seven-grain "fiber twigs" (charming, huh? :P), and soy-protein isolate chunks that have been sweetened with (most unfortunately,) honey. The stuff really is pretty darn tasty...
That said, I would agree with Secondbase in saying that Nature's Path is probably a great bet. Their blueberry, flax, granola cereal (whose name I've totally forgotten), contains "twigs" that taste just like the ones in Kashi. That said, that one is a lot more calorically dense, whatwith the flax seeds and granola bits-- though much higher in nutrients, antioxidants, and all sorts of other valuable stuff. (It's soy-free, but it still contains 9 grams of protein-- not bad, eh?) So, I think it's 200 calories a cup, which is low for anything with granola in it, but obviously higher than Kashi. So, if that's an issue, I'd still sift through the Nature's Path section, I'm positive they have an equivalent.
see, i was under the impression veg*ns only ate twigs and berries.... ;)
LMAO!!!!!!

The cereal you may be talking about is my favourite. You can get the big box way cheaper at Costco than a HFS. Maybe it is not the one you are talking about as this one has soy.
It is called Nature's Path, Organic Optimum Power Cereal. Flax, Soy, Blueberry.
Not the lowest in calories but good with milk, soy or other and just as a dry snack.
Has the long crunchies!
Have my box out so here is the breakdown:
Cereal: 3/4 of a cup
Calories: 190 with 1/2 cup skim milk 230 (totals below are without milk)
Fat: 3 grams
Saturated: 0.4 grams
Trans fat: 0
Cholesterol: 0
Sodium: 230 mg
Carbs: 40 grams
Fibre: 10 grams
Sugars: 16 grams
Protein: 8 grams
Vitamin A: 0
Vitamin C: 0
Calcium: 2 %
Iron: 20 %
It is incredibly yummy and really good just as a dry snack.
It has made me like cereal again!
Di
check out the kashi website, they have a few cereals that do not contain honey:
http://www.kashi.com/ourfood/ (look at the organic promise kinds)
I think nature's path's flax blueberry is probably similar in texture but far too sweet for me... but i like the texture far better than the multigrain flakes. I just wish they had mutigrain fiber blueberry with no sweetening!
Yup Di, that's the one. I knew it had a kinda goofy name, but I had forgotten precisely what it was.
The cereal really doesn't taste at all sweet, which is why I liked it. But it does have a fair amount of sweetener in it.
Kay, just went to the Nature's Path site and found one that you might want to try out-- it has pretty much all the same ingredients as Kashi, but organic, and sweetened with barley malt and cane juice.
It's called Optimum Slim. (2.5 g fat, 38 g carbs, 11 of which are fiber, 7 g sugar, and 9 g protein, making for 180 calories per cup.) Supplies a whopping load of fiber and calcium as well.
Ooh, they also sell one called "Multigrain Oatbran Flakes" which is pretty low cal (110 per 3/4 cup), low sugar, though it's soy free, so not as much protein. (4 grams.) But they sell it in an "Eco-pac," which looks to be a large plastic bag. :P But plastic isn't very eco-friendly, so I'm assuming it's a biodegradeable material of some sort. Anyway, that one might have very similar texture to Kashi, because it's got a billion different grains in it and lots of fiber.
Oh, here's another one: Synergy - 8 whole grains Cereal. Lots of fiber, low cal, low sugar, very multigrain.
By the way...
see, i was under the impression veg*ns only ate twigs and berries.... ;)
Very cute, Baypuppy. :D
