Rainbow Chard

So, i have recently obtained a huge amount of rainbow chard from my mom's garden, and was wondering if anyone had any good ways of eating it. I've never had chard before, so i don't know what it would go well with.
A reeeaallly simple but yummy "recipe" for chard:
Cut up a good amount of leaves and stems of chard (stems chopped, leaves in slices); open can of white beans (Great Northern beans are good). Saute some garlic, toss in the beans, toss in the chard, saute til yummy looking. Add a splash of balsamic vinegar and some salt and pepper. Normal people would probably share this, but I eat the whole thing ::) Mmm...I was on a chard kick for a while but haven't had any for a long time. Off to go get chard...
Yep, that's what I do, basically! Chard and white beans. I've had red chard and rainbow chard multiple times..there's a recipe here on VW..let's see. http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=12217.0 is the one I've used.
I saute it in balsamic and a little olive oil like the others...it boils down quite a bit, so do not be afraid to add a lot. I also add garlic, sundried tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, and whatever else I have around in the veggie department. The last step is adding chopped, marinated artichoke hearts, but do not add them until the last minute or they will cook to nothing. Basically, I create a massive rainbow veggie dish! My mom likes this with pasta, but I like it plain. Swiss chard is so delicious, but rainbow swiss chard takes it to new level because it is so pretty!
thank you all! I made it with the recipe AC posted & eating some right now, soooo yummy :)>>>
I'm moving next week so my mom harvested all the herbs in the garden, i added a bunch of basil, thyme and red pepper, also i'm not much onefor garlic so i added just a clove, but after eating this i can see why it goes so well with it. All around really good!
;)b ;)b
i'm not much onefor garlic
:o :o :o But, garlic is so very yummy :'(
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's such a simple meal, and you can pretty much fancy it up or simplify it as much as you'd like!

Not if you're a vampire like me :P
But, i will probably add more next time, and do lots of experimenting with additions...i tried the chard before i cooked it and it was sooo earthy tasting, but after cooked it's delicious!
Does anybody else get a funny choky feeling in the back of their throat when they eat chard? It ain't pleasant... I love chard, but can't really eat it. :'(

allergy maybe?
I loove chard with white beans and garlic. :)>>> :)>>> Yummy comfort food. Add some veggie or un-chicken broth and maybe a little nooch and you have a wonderful Italian white bean and greens soup! Delish ;)b
I make a KILLER gratin with chard. Saute an onion, garlic, and the chopped up chard stems until soft and slightly browned. Then add the rougly chopped chard leaves and a big splash of white wine. Cook until wilted, then add salt, pepper, and nutmeg, maybe a little thyme or something. Then stir in a spoonful of Tofutti cr. cheese or silken tofu puree, then put it into a Pyrex bowl or dish. Top with a little handful of bread crumbs, and broil it until the crumbs crisp up.
I LOVE CHARD. And it's fun to grow!

it doesn't happen to me with chard, but i remember that's what i would get when i'd try to drink eggnog when i was little...it was really weird, like trying to swallow something that was way too big for my throat.

Maybe. It only started about 2 years ago... maybe a year and a half. Before then, eating chard was a pleasant experience. It makes me so sad now.
