Home made cream of rice?

Cream of rice is just ground up rice, isn't it? Or do they do something to it? Locally they sell it in tiny, tiny packets that often leak before you get them home. And going downtown to the fancy grocery means fancy prices. I'd like to make cream of brown rice, if I thought I could just zip it in my coffee grinder and go from there.

I have no idea what cream of rice is, but I googled it and came up with this:

I ground up all kinds of grains, including rice, to feed to my baby. I think it works fine and is the same thing as cream of rice.

I do homemade cream of brown rice.  I just toss a couple of cups into the dry container of my Vitamix and grind in on 6-8 speed.  Then I dump it out into a saucepan with about four cups of water or milk and simmer about twenty minutes (stirring frequently; adding more liquid if necessary).  I also toss in dried fruit sometimes and top with maple syrup/agave/stevia.  I save the leftovers and eat them through out the week.  Super easy, super cheap.

I just saw this today when I was at Little India, first time seeing cream of rice. It would work to grind it up yourself, sure will be loud though!

Thanks. When I Googled from Europe all I got were places willing to sell it to me online.
Good info. Except for this line:
"In North America, it is used as a hot cereal for infants and people with gluten allergies -- not many other people like it."

Yeah? How do they know that? How many people did they interview out of the population of the US, or indeed the world? That's like saying "a good time was had by all." You can't say that unless it was you and maybe one other person.
