Help! My bananas are splitting!

I buy bananas from Ecuador at our local LIDL. I leave them out on the counter because I know that if you put nanas in the fridge they turn black. For some reason, the last couple of batches, the skins have popped open, in mid-fruit, just when they get ripe enough to eat. This allows the %&/$$**&& ANTS to get at them! I tried wrapping them in plastic and got over-ripe nanas overnight. DH is so picky!!
Why are they suddenly popping open like someone who forgot to check their fly? (Honestly, that's what it looks like!) How can I keep my bananas from splitting?
:o
Because they're turning into The Incredible Banana?
While it may be counter intuitive, would refrigeration be an option when they get close to ripe? Hanging the bananas maybe?
tape them shut!! ;D
Strange problem you have there. I like to eat bananas when they are still under ripe so I don't ever have that problem. Once they pop open you can slice & put in the freezer.
??? ??? What are they near? See if that has anything to do with it.
Oh, gosh...ya think? They're near the microwave.... :o

Maybe just put them somewhere else and see if they do it.
Post a picture!
This is hilarious :D
Not sure if this is related, but I had a similar incident the other day with a cucumber.
One day I came home, and the cucumber that had been sitting on the microwave had, in essence, exploded. As in, the center was all busted and mushy and cucumber guts were dripping onto the counter, forming a lovely puddle on the floor. None of my housemates know what happened....it kind of creeps me out. Theories range from bugs to sprouting seeds to alien life forms to....*dramatic music*....the microwave.
I always keep produce on the microwave and have never had problems. It doesn't really get that hot! Or at least I don't think it does. Do you think the periodic radiation from the microwave somehow made my cuke spill its guts?
I don't think I like cucumbers anymore :-\

Cucumbers should be refrigerated and I think the heat from the microwave did do some damage as well.
Our microwave now is new, but the old one would erase tapes if I listened to my Walkman near it when it was on...so that may have something to do with it.
The fruit-shop man says that they are kept green in cold storage in transport, so they ripen here. Maybe being exposed to the microwave, or the heat in the kitchen, ripened them too fast.
Anyway my GP has told me no more nanas until I lose about 25 lbs, so no longer a problem. :-\
No more BANANAS until you loose weight? craziness!!! Fruits & vegs are our friends!
This exact same thing happened to me just the other week!! I was SO frustrated and had to throw the whole bunch into the green bin because the fruit flies had gotten into them. I don't know why it happend. I had them in a hanger thinger that is near the stove but not THAT close that I would think that the heat split them. I wish I could offer a solution but, alas, I cannot. I'm gonna pick up a bunch again this week and see what happens...maybe I'll keep them in the cupboard? I dunno. Let me know if you come up with something. Good luck!!

I keep all fruit in the refrigerator. With bananas I don't like them very ripe.

Duct tape??
Gorilla Glue?? (Is Gorilla Glue vegan?) ;D
At least I can make banana bread---they're in the freezer waiting for Monday...

Bananas are quite high on the glycemic index... so if you're following a low GI diet they are like one of the fruits to avoid (along with watermelon, plus a few more).
25LBS! Good luck girl! I have a great book on eating on the low GI plan... If you're interested let me know... It works & doesn't really restrict.
