favorite cookies?

We're having a cookie raffle at work. I'd like to do it--because I feel the vegans have to represent--but my cookies aren't the best. That's my husband's department! What are your favorite omni-sucessful cookie recipes?

Ooooooohh...YUM!

Happy birthday, Meikmeika! I just clicked on your profile and noticed the pretty piece of cake!  :)

Definitely the chocolate chip cookies from the ppk blog. These are the bomb! I couldn't believe a cookie recipe made with oil could be so good!!!!!! Gotta try this definitely! http://theppk.com/blog/2008/11/10/chocolate-chip-cookies/

Yeah, these are our new favorites! I've made them with cornstarch and with tapioca flour..and they are definitely better with the tapioca flour. I liked 2 inch ones better than 3 inch.  :)

Great looking, and I'm sure great tasting cookies, too. How is it better with the tapioca flour? I've never baked with tapioca flour before?

:) They are pretty near perfect! You know..I think the difference with the tapioca flour is mainly textural. With the cornstarch, the wet mix (oil, sugars, etc.) didn't get quite as caramely/thick, and the cookies just came out too crinkly. I don't know if there's a taste difference..maybe just a bit, but that might be due to something else. I also made them too large the first time. So, I'm sure they'd still be fabulous with the cornstarch (we enjoyed them), but I think the tapioca flour is worth a try. I found it in the bulk bins along with everything else, and it's not expensive or anything. They are great cookies, either way.

Thanks again for coming to the vegan baking rescue, Allychristine. :)

I'll pick up some tapioca flour next time I go to the store. I'm always curious to try new ingredients anyway.

i made those chocolate chip cookies from the ppk too just now and they're good but i don't think theyre better than the 'chocolate chip cookies like they should be' recipe off vegweb.  that recipe totally tastes like nestle tollhouse cookies to me which is what my mom always made when i was a kid (still does) so thats probably why.  maybe it's the lack of buttery flavor that eb gives em.  they're definitely tasty but id prob just stick the the vegweb recipe unless im totally out of eb.. maybe cocoa added to the batter would add some extra flavor?

Someone needs to mention Awesome Chocolate Cookies. They really are.

I've also had success with pretty much all the cookies on veganmania.com.

I'm glad you guys liked the ppk chocalate chip cookies! AllyChristine, those pictures are making my mouth water! I have to try it with the tapioca flour (since I only have cornstartch).
Oh man, Propinecone, you didn't like them so much? What a bummer. I don't know what it is but I love them! Yummy! If you think those "chocalate chip cookies like they should be" are better than the ppk ones then I gotta try those! Gonna check them out now...

I like the 'c.c.cookies like they should be', too. They have always been one of my faves. I actually just made the ppk ones again, and they turned out strangely! I did (hesitantly) try doing 1/3 cup applesauce, and 1/3 oil..so that might be part of the problem. Also, I wasn't paying total attention..so I might have missed something, but the dough was way too liquidy, and the cookies came out odd and doughy (more like batter-y). Oh well! They taste fairly good. I still think it's the best cookie recipe. Just follow the directions!

The choco chips cookies as they should be recipe always has turned out too cakey for my liking, i think it calls for too much baking powder vs. baking soda if i remember correctly....

eta:  Ashley Kimball is a veritable baking genius-- so maybe we can pm her or something or myspace her with some queries... she must be quite busy with her studies. *sending good vibes to Ms. Ashley*

really?  ive never felt they were cakey at all - crispy around the edges and chewy in the middle.  are you using any applesauce instead of eb?  that always makes my cookies cakey.

I've been wondering the same thing. I hope she's okay. She's great with the baking! I still gotta try her "samosa girl scout cookie" recipe. I really miss those...  :'(  They were so good...

Haha I found some tapioca flour tucked in my freezer which I bought  a while back to make soy yogurt with, so I think I will give the ppk cookies a try, and also my 'standby' recipe which I veganized.... will let you all know how it turns out k

ac, your pictures made me want chocolate chip cookies really really bad(rare, since i'm not normally a melty chocolate chip fan), but i didn't read the part where you said they came out weird with applesauce  :'( and i made them with applesauce.

Awwwww. Did you just make them??  :( Yeah, they definitely came out weird that time. Follow the recipe exactly (I use ww pastry flour), and they should come out fabulously! Sorry they didn't work out.
