I have some tofu that expires today. Is it possible to freeze it? Should I do anything with it first -like open the package and cut it into cubes?
Thanks

I just throw the whole package in the freezer. Usually I will cube a block of tofu for the dog. That way I can just grab a few pieces for his dinner. Only thing I notice is tofu turns a yellowish color in the freezer.

huh wha? do you make your own dog food? That's amazing. My dad started doing that once he read the ingredients on the dog food package. I guess they don't really need artificial colours...

my Zippy does not like eating his relatives so commercial food is out for him. I figure if I am limiting my processed food intake might as well learn how to feed the dog a healthy diet also. In the past year on the vegan diet he has gained so much life I am truly amazed.

Here is suggestion I did not see mentioned? They make tofu in a box that has a good shelf life. Brand that is sold in my area is Mori-Nu Says right on it no refrigeration needed till opened. It is organic Non GMO and Kosher for my fellow Jewish posters.

this inspired me to write a short skit about this topic.
miss 1979: is it ok for me to freeze tofu?
tofu: HELL YES - FREEZE MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I am SO much more awesome after i've been frozen & I promise that you will love me more than you ever thought you could. I will sit in the freezer and wait until you are ready to use me and then i will soak up TONS more flavor when you marinate me! Much like other aspects of life, only after hardships do you really grow to your fullest potential, and I am willing to prevail through torturous cold so that i will become a better, stronger, more delicious tofu for you. You know what you have to do.
THE END.

silken tofu: Hey-o! don't forget about me! i know that big shot "regular" tofu is acting like he's totally the shit after being frozen.. and yeah - i can't say that i wouldnt eat him that way - he's pretty tasty, but i gotta say that i'm somewhat of an underappreciated & overlooked ingredient when it comes to things besides pudding pies. if you take me out of my package, put me in a ziploc container, freeze & unthaw me - i get flakey - kinda like fish! so seriously, i know i'm pretty hot as sour cream, but trust me on this. freeze me, thaw me, tear me apart, coat me in some flour & cornmeal mixture and stick me in the oven. I know the word 'silk' is in my name and that may sound kinda wussy, but believe me i can take the abuse and you will love my delicate innards. are you up for the challenge?? can you handle it??
oh, and apparently lotus42 thinks i'm pretty sweet in the chicken fingers dish so check that shit out. apparently i'm getting rave reviews. holla!!

Hey PPC can you amend your act about silken tofu? Frozen silken tofu also makes great "chicken fingers." There is a recipe on this site that is really good.
