First annual Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale - June 20-28, 2009
Hi,
I wanted to announce the first annual Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale, sponsored by Compassion for Animals (CfA), a new DC-based grassroots animal advocacy group, of which I'm a part.
The idea is simple (we hope): Anyone or any group - not just animal-related or vegan groups - can join by having a vegan bake sale during the period June 20-28. Participants can do whatever they want with the proceeds.
CfA will leverage the event and its semi-good media connections to get positive mainstream and non-mainstream press on vegan food and veganism in general.
So if you participate, you can...save two birds with one nest, by raising funds for your cause as well as being part of this fun awareness-raising global happening.

We do ask that people who want to participate fill out our "easy as pie" signup form, so we and the world can know where the vegan bake sales are and who's holding them.

I just posted about this on the Boston Vegan Association forum, stating that I am interested and asking who's with me. I love love love to bake and I really want to do this. I'm sure my BVA friends will be into it too. Thanks for posting about this and organizing it!!

Possibly downtown L.A., faunablues. I am checking on a few things to see if a vegan bake style downtown is possible, seeing if there's enough interest.
Great news! I have secured a spot at the Los Angeles City Hall Farmers Market for a bake sale on Thursday, June 25 from 10a-2p.

I'm going to have a yard sale the weekend of the 27 and 28 and had planned on having a vegan bake sale then! I'm so happy it corresponds to the international bake sale!! Woot!
In Los Angeles, the Vegan Bake Sale will take place at the Los Angeles City Hall Farmers Market, 200 N. Spring Street(City Hall lawn), next Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The folks at the Los Angeles City Hall Farmers Market have been VERY kind in helping me set this up. Tables, umbrellas and prime spot with foot traffic secured for the event. Gary, who is organizing this global event, has been wonderful too and very responsive even with his busy schedule.
Staff of Councilmember Reyes, who is sponsoring the event, and several other Los Angeles City Councilmember staffers have offered to bake, make signs and post these fliers:

details: july 1, 5:00 p.m. at audubon community market, held weekly at stardust cafe (which you should visit anyway, for the videos/beer, coffee, wifi, whatever)

We got some very kind donations from a diverse community of bakers who included friends, family, Los Angeles City Hall staff, Farmers Market vendors, and even gourmet chefs!
