I found that out shortly after becoming vegetarian and I was so grossed out I almost puked.

Even their buns are loaded with chemicals!!

I think I am going to barf now.  How many big word chemicals can you put into a piece of bread.  And beef in french fries!?  I don't think I will ever eat at McDonald's again.  Gross.

McDonald's french fries are the ONE thing that my boyfriend still "misses" as a vegan.  He really, really loved those things.  I used to also, but just knowing all the shit they put in their food turns me off!  Blech.

That's disgusting. I'd heard that before too. I'm not too surprised.

Yeah, my little bro is a manager at a McDonalds and he told me that they put meat flavorings in the fries.  But, I guess that's prolly why they taste so good...

like everything on their menu has animal products in it except a side salad with balsamic dressing... boring

I've had delicious fries that didn't have beef fat on them...  It's unnecessary & gross, especially when they used to market them as "Vegetarian."  (Thus, the lawsuit from a group of Hindus who ate the fries, believing them to be vegetarian.)

I hate french fries so it doesn't matter to me. I used to work at a Mcdonalds (in the front) and at a Burger King ( in the back) this was in high school, lets just say I never ate there again and it's hard for me to eat in any restuarant and haven't in a few years. You never know what is in your food!!

this is sooooo true... i hardly eat out... the only time i feel comfortable is when it is a vegan restaurant... otherwise i feel like many don't really know what is in the food they serve u... they don't know all the "code words" for animal bi products

So  is it beef or "beef flavor?"

Damn!!  I really liked those fries and thought they were alright.  Thanks for informing me.  I am now totally grossed out and am seriously thinking of not going there again.  (my son isn't vegan or vegetarian so he gets chicken nuggets so I usually swipe a few fries from him not amymore)  Does anyone know if it's only them or everyones else too?

it's beef flavor, which is derived from beef.

Yeah, I always understood that it was from beef, but the ingredients table seems to indicate that it's from wheat and milk. Either way not vegan, but I wonder if they changed the source of the "flavor" to make it vegetarian?

Perfect french fries don't need that!
Use good quality potatoes. Peel and cut into fries. Soak in ice water for about 5-10 min and dry thoroughly on a towel.
Fry them in Olive Oil (you heard me) until brown and delicious. Drain on paper towels and salt to taste.
Perfection.

ugh, so glad I stopped eating fast food years ago.  You never know what they're really feeding you.  Thanks for the info - I passed it on to some of my junk-food loving vegetarian peeps.  Little did they know beef-juice (or whatever) is on their beloved fries.  :o

I'm sure a ton of people here have read Fast Food Nation (if you didn't already have enough reasons not to eat fast food, here's about 400 pages that will turn you off for good!!), but it includes a whole chapter about food additives and flavorings. McDonald's started adding beef flavors to their french fries when they could no longer fry them in actual beef fat but still wanted that delicious cow taste.

i watched the movie but never read the book... my boyfriend works there and eats at least 2 carcass patties a day and is still skinny as a rail... i thinks it's disgusting and i can tell it's not good on his insides because he has number 3 as soon as he get's home... though he keeps eating the crap... then his stomach is too upset to eat any other food for the rest of the day... maybe one day he will connect the dots and stop eating that crap and eat the yummy stiff i make for him that just sits in the fridge :(
