I avoid chocolate due the caffeine. I avoid stimulants. So thanks from me - Mark - too! I have two questions though: is this carob powder or carob chips? And what kind of icing goes with this cake?

Carob powder. Different carob powders do have slightly different tastes as well, so if you don't like the kind you get don't swear it all off! As far as icing, this cake is so moist it doesn't even need it. However a veganized buttercream icing goes well. I cream together a big spoonful of EB, a splash of rice milk, a bit of vanilla extract and some icing sugar until it is spreading consistency. I make my own icing sugar with a recipe from here: http://www.veganchef.com/ So yeah, vanilla icing works.
You can sub it in place of cocoa, just remember that carob is slightly sweeter, so you may want to cut down the sugar a tad. This is a delicious tried and true recipe: http://www.ourvegankitchen.com/index.php?option=com_rapidrecipe&page=viewrecipe&recipe_id=49
