What DVD are you watching lately?

I have BBC's Persuasion on, but I can't really get into. I've heard thought that BBC's Sense & Sensibility is good. Of course I"ve watched the Ang Lee Emma Thompson version which is superb... I may get it this week to see  :P

Trying to watch "A Year in Provence" with John Thaw. I wouldn't go for it myself but it's a present from a friend. It's a particular type of British humour.

I loved that book, didn't know a movie had come out.
I watched Guess who's coming to dinner last night

Last night I watched Where the Wild Things Are. It just didn't really do it for me. The visuals were amazing, and Max is a cool character. However, it just kind of drug on for me, with not much happening. However, it's only an hour and 34 minutes, so it isn't too bad.

The other day I watched Doubt, and it was all right. Meryl Streep is fantastic, as usual, but there wasn't really much of a storyline, honestly. I think it would be much better as a play.

You can get it from the BBC website if you go to "Shop".
I bet my friend likes "Keeping Up Appearances".

I just bought a book about Thaw written by his wife after his death. I shall miss The Eyebrows.

We watched Fantastic Mr. Fox last night.

I love this movie! Anything Wes Anderson does is perfect. It was definitely exciting to see what he could do in a different media. I'm not sure this is a kid's movie, though, as advertised. I think kids will think it looks cool, but a lot of the humor will  be lost on them. I saw this in the theater with my husband and my sister, and at one point we were cracking up excessively, and a little girl sitting in front of us yelled at us and told us to be quiet. Of course, that made us laugh even harder.

Another kids movie that's not for kids that I love. It seems like people either love or hate this one. I'm a huge fan of subtlety and movies in which "not much happens." It's definitely more like a piece of visual art than a traditional movie. I thought it was very touching, but I could see how others would not like it.

I agree--it didn't seem like a kids' movie at all. The existentialism was there for the adults, I guess, and the kids got to look at cool animals.

I understood the subtlety of Where the Wild Things Are (actually, not that subtle), but I kept asking "What are you going to do with it? Where are you going with it?" Meh. It was fun to look at.

That's kind of the way I feel about the new series of Marple and Poirot. You look at them, more than watch them. The cars, the houses, the period clothes, the way they capture the time. (If you don't notice that same blue motor in all of them! like my husband did.) The actors are (usually) good, though I don't think much of Julia Mackensie's Marple, preferrring as I do Geraldine McEwan's spice of elfishness to blancmange. But if you know the stories you just find them rather soothing as they evoke the England That Never Was.

I watched Death at a Funeral. While I love British humor and it has plenty, it still didn't quite do it for me. It has a pretty good plot and the story moves along at a decent pace, and there are enough subplots that I was interested. It just wasn't as good as I had hoped.

I recommend Blow Dry, with Alan Rickman, from the 90's. Hysterical.

I have been watching Paris, je t'aime, because I'm heading to France in May! That DVD has so many great stories!

Before that, I was obsessed with my new box set of Kids in the Hall. *I've lost my drum, I've lost my indian drum...* ;D

Ha ha! Too funny. I was just describing this movie to my husband the other night but couldn't think of the name of it. Alan Rickman. What a trip.

Didn't care to see Couples Retreat, but I've seen Pirate Radio in theatres. It was really entertaining for me, who's a pop culture maniac, but I agree that it wasn't great. I didn't feel as if I had lost my time or money being in the theatre at that time.

I watched Rosemary's Baby last night, and it was stunning. I like old movies and I like to see how cinema has changed, and this did not disappoint. It had a magnetic storyline, too! Mia Farrow is great in the part. I can't believe I hadn't seen this before. Love it.

love Rosemary"s Baby!

I'm trying to work my way through AFI top 100 movies.  I should get Casablanca today or tomorrow.  I've seen part, but not all of it.

I want to watch Casablanca sometime. My boyfriend had to watch it for a class, and he raved about it for weeks.
