Podcasts!
We've had this thread before, but I want to know (again!) if there are any podcast listeners, and what you listen to. Podcasts are my crack. I listen to a podcast every night while I'm falling to sleep.
In my itunes:
Cast On (knitting)
The Cosmopolitan Hour - a feminist/vegan podcast by PPKers Erika and Jordan - I love this so much! Hilarious
Let's Get Baked (vegan cooking show with guest bands)
various Librivox audiobooks
Limenviolet (knitting, hilarious)
The Ricky Gervais Podcast
Savage Love (sex advice call-in show with Dan Savage)
Sex is Fun (sex health/education/interesting stuff)
Stephen Fry's Podgrams (so great)
This American Life (from npr)
VeganFreak Radio
Vegetarian Food for Thought (Colleen Patrick Goudreau)
You Look Nice Today (just a bunch of funny guys shootin' the shit)
I want mooooooooore. Podcasts! What are some good ones?
This is fabulous, and I wrote some down to get when I get home. Thanks! I'm always looking for more podcasts to listen to! I have a 45 minute drive each way to and from work, and I need distractions!
I like:
American Public Media: American Radioworks
NPR: Fresh Air
PRI: The Changing World
PRI's The World: Science (one of my favorites!)
Run Vegan Run
Stuff You Should Know
The Moth Podcast
This American Life (duh!)
Vegetarian Food for Thought
I change what I listen to quite often, but I always listen to Veg Food for Thought, over and over.

We listen to a lot of the same ones, VeganRun! I love PRI's The World: Science. Have you heard the similar program, PRI's The World: The World in Words? It's a similar format, but they cover language-related stories from around the globe. I've learned some fascinating things about linguistics since I started listening; from weird facts about the etymology of English words to stories about disappearing languages in remote areas of the world.
Stuff You Should Know is also awesome. I love the podcasts from HowStuffWorks.com. I actually like the Stuff Mom Never Told You, from the same provider, a little bit more. They've had some fascinating episodes about gender-related topics... I especially liked the one on the history of bras!! ^-^
Yes! I love Stuff Mom Never Told You. I meant to put that one! I've learned a lot from it. I haven't heard of The World In Words, but I'm going to download it tonight! I really like etymology--I think it's so revealing about our culture and other cultures. For instance, I just learned that "companion" means "with bread" as in, someone you share food with is a friend. I thought that was so cool. I'm glad it's not "comcarne" or something meat-related!
I downloaded some of the Cosmopolitan Hour last night, and I think they're pretty funny. The first episode I listened to was making fun of Nickelback, so I knew this was the podcast for me!
As for whether it's a podcast: It DOES NOT have to be on your iPod. I listen to podcasts on my computer all the time, and I have downloaded podcasts for my parents on their computers, and they don't have an iPod. They're free, they're informative, so I really recommend them. All you need is a computer and iTunes.

Hahaha. I listened to that one, too! They also make fun of Garrison Keillor & "A Prairie Home Companion," which completely won me over because I fricking *HATE* that show & I think Garrison is insufferably annoying. :)>>>

GK was good in the way back when, like the late 70's, when he first started. Then in the mid 80s his fame went to his head and he became just...weird. The TV experiment was a failure. I remember seeing one episode in 90 or 91 when I happened to be in the States and finding it creeeepy. I couldn't put my finger on why, but it creeped me out. I have since read some of his short fiction published in the 90's and found it insipid.
Great suggestions!!
KMK - I LOOOOOOOOOVED The Ricky Gervais Podcast! I wish there were more! Or are there more? If so, I'll get to downloading.
Also, my boyfriend is hooked on Radio Lab (some great/sad animal ones) and Wiretap (reallllly funny: http://www.cbc.ca/wiretap/).
Laura, Ricky Gervais and the podcast crew have been making another series of audio shows over the past 6 months or so. They are called "The Ricky Gervais Guide To..." and you can get them on audible.com Nearly as funny as the podcast, I think.
