Maybe they can "grow" farm animals without a brain.......

Since they want to grow and develop more and more "franken-food" animals, perhaps they can "create" ones that have no brain (or if any...at least make it a very tiny tiny tiny one ). :-\ This way the animals will be too stupid to realize how bad their lives are....they'll be oblivious to any pain and suffering. I don't know about you.....but the stuff they are doing to living breathing creatures......those that they consider merely as "food" or "products"...scares the piss out of me! >:(

I like the IDEA behind this...but I'm really scared of the testing they would have to do to achieve thats....ewwwe gross thought though!

I find my thoughts lingering on the deplorable conditions that animals are facing and their cruel (I need a stronger word...) and brutal treatment--then I find myself crying only to realize I'm somewhere in public or driving or whatever. No matter how hard I try to stop myself from thinking about these poor creatures I can't. While I am not a religious person, I have always believed that if anyone deserves an after life paradise it has to be the animals of our world--we even treat our pets like crap!

Maybe they should just work on clonning meat--they claim they can clone indivual organs so why cant they clone a package of ground chuck?

Better yet we need to get on the Star Trek idea of a food synthsier--everthing that comes out of it tastes like the real thing but composed of engery! (why couldn't I have been born in the 24th century???)

Uhhh, maybe some pets are treated like crap, but most, and especially mine are very happy, very spoiled little kitties, even my fish are spoiled!  They beg me for food.  And they say fish aren't intellegent, I would disagree.  I think most pets are treated very well and couldn't be any happier.  But farm animals...I very much agree with you, the way they are treated is cruel and very in-humane.

I didn't me "we" like we on the board here--but in general a lot of pets are not given the treatment they deserve--point in case this horrible Michale Vicks dog fight scandle, not to mention all the little critters sitting in over crowed pet shelters waiting for homes that will ultimitly end up being put down for no other reason then being taxing on the system. I am hopefulll that many pet owners, or guardians as I prefer, give their animals the best possible treatment but if that were the case we wouldn't have animal abuse investigators and the like. Animals, whether thay are farm, domesticated or wild are all victims of human abuse.

To be the devil's advocate; There are farms that treat animals with love and respect. I'd venture to say that alot of animals aren't treated with respect, let alone having their basic needs met. How can they when a large portion of humans don't even know how to take care of themselves?! All in all, it is nice to believe that all animals are loved and cuddled and fed healthfully, this is not true. More people are coming around, though,  we are working towards a society that all living beings will live together with respect. One step forward, two steps back, it seems.

There are lots of pets treated horribly.....too many that end up in shelters. Too many that are "sentenced to death"....for a crime that did not commit. That does not include those stuck wandering the woods and in the streets of the US.  :(

Here are the latest statistics (from the HSUS...their "estimates"):

HSUS Pet Overpopulation Estimates-

Number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year:
6-8 million (HSUS estimate)

Number of cats and dogs euthanized by shelters each year:
3-4 million (HSUS estimate)

Number of cats and dogs adopted from shelters each year:
3-4 million (HSUS estimate)

Number of cats and dogs reclaimed by owners from shelters each year:
Between 600,000 and 750,000 -- 30% of dogs and 2-5% of cats entering shelters (HSUS estimate)

Number of animal shelters in the United States:
Between 4,000 and 6,000 (HSUS estimate)

Percentage of dogs in shelters who are purebred:
25% (HSUS estimate)

Average number of litters a fertile cat can produce in one year: 3

Average number of kittens in a feline litter: 4-6

Average number of litters a fertile dog can produce in one year: 2

Average number of puppies in a canine litter: 6-10
