John Robbins Family and the Madoff Scandal
I wasn't sure where to post this, but here it is (I know this isn't exactly cooking related, but he's affected so many of our food choices and vegan ways of life. Yvette, feel free to move this thread if you prefer.) I'm sure many of you have been influenced on your vegan jouney by John Robbins. The first book I read of his, May All Be Fed, had a great impact on me. I just got an email from VegSource (another veg site) with the sad news that John Robbins and his family were also victims of the whole Bernard Madoff financial scandal. The Robbins family lost their entire savings apparently. This man has contributed so much to the world of health, nutrition, and veganism. He left behind his legacy as Baskin-Robbins heir, and instead followed a path of true wellness. What a devastating loss for him and his family. Here's a link to the VegSource article if you're interested:
This is very sad. I hope his book can be rushed and provides his family with a large source of income.
John Robbins is an incredible inspiration to many of us.
I read everything he puts out and watch all his interviews.
This piece of crap that scammed all these people is still living the high life.
Hopefully everything works out for the Robbins family.
Sad :(
Whoah, I think I'm going to send him a check. It wont be much, but I will do what I can!
It's very sad indeed. That Maddoff a-holes scammed so many people, it's unbelievable. I hope everything will work out for Mr Robbins and his family. I know that money is just material, but still, it's material that we work hard for having.
That's sad. That being said....I don't like the fact that the women wants you to send money to her. Why not set up a bank account and have the money sent directly there. How do you know she's not going to take all the money and run?
This is sad, but honestly I don't think he's going to be 'homeless' or anything...he still has profits coming in from books and whatnot and properties, etc.... He wouldn't be 'poor' as in lower working-class or underclass standards by modern sociologists, I think he just wouldn't be part of the upper echelon rich elite anymore.... I feel bad that this happened because he's vegan and good and all...but I don't think he's 'needy' per se..just not mega-rich. Still sucky, tho :(
The link at the top of this post is part of Robbins earthsave.org so the money is probably going to him or his foundation some how.
For people that think John Robbins is ultra wealthy you need to look at how he lives and the family fortune he gave away.

Yeah, he didn't inherit Baskin Robbins $$$$ but his books have made him $$ & continue to do so.... he may have lost savings& investments but is by no means destitute is all I'm saying. I'm a fan of his and have his books so I'm not trying to hate on him ;)

yeah, I just don't see why he should be treated any different than any other person who's lost everything in this economy.
