John McCain and Women's Health

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7Z4dxjRv4g

At the end of the video, they ask you to forward it to 5 friends. I figured this would get to way more than 5. Feel free to pass it on ladies (and gentleman).

I wrote a research paper on why that style of sex ed has failed hard in this country. There's an incredible number of studies that have been done on the subject, most of which were summarized in a report Henry Waxman wrote for the House Oversight committee. If you have time to read it, it contains some highly disturbing info about what is being fed to kids in conservative school districts as "fact".  Here's the link: http://oversight.house.gov/documents/20041201102153-50247.pdf

I can't really watch the videos here at work. Well I guess I could watch them, the listening part I can't do. I'm just going to assume they were both ridiculously conservative. And I also wanted to share that the town I live in is so conservative & Republican that John McCain stopped by for dinner on Friday. He was at a restaraunt less than a half mile from my house and everyone has been talking about it all weekend.  ::)

Believe me, I know abstinence does NOT work!  I tried that...now I am pregnant...that is how well it works!

Yes, abstinece is the best thing, but people are animals, no more, no less.  And like all animals, the instinct to procreate is the second most powerful instinct any animal possesses, right under the instinct to survive.

I plan to teach my child about sex at around the age of 11 or so, when he seems to be getting to the puberty stage of life.  I know how powerful that instinct is, and I know it isn't any less for other people.

Oh, and I couldn't see the video either.  But somebody mentioned abstince only sex ed and that makes me so made because it is so stupid and does not work.

The first video is a public survey asking questions like "Who has said Roe vs Wade should be overturned, Bush or McCain?"  or "Who opposes insurance funded birth control?" or "Who opposed funding for family planning?"  The answers are McCain, McCain and Both.

Watch them if you can!  Good information and a link to find out more like www.plannedparenthoodvotes.com !

He's in my nation's capital this week! I should throw water balloons (no, water-filled condoms!) at him.

Wait, I can't throw anything to Ottawa. That's hundreds of miles away. Laura, what were you thinking?

Somebody should totally do that though.

hehe If only I knew he was going to be in my town before he was there instead of after the fact, I could have totally done this!!!  :-D

Does it bother anyone else that "women's health" is equated to birth control/reproductive health/abortions?  Is that all I need, as a woman, to be healthy?  I dunno...the feminist in me is bothered by the woman=reproduction and as long as we protect reproductive health, then we protect women's health.

That's so true! There's a hell of a lot more to "women's health" than reproduction. And mental/emotional health isn't factored in at all.

I will weigh in as a proponent of women's rights. Around where I work there is a women's health center that has been picketed for years by people with tasteless propagandist posters. We've  recently diffused them by getting permission from owners to hang Obama signs around the area. Apparently their political agenda is stronger than their spiritual agenda... hmm
