I saw Capture got a new ipod and when I got an ipod my favorite thing was the MPR Current song of the day podcast. It basically gives you a free song of new release music every day. I also really like Elsie's yoga podcast. What are everyone else's favorites?
I subscribe to:
Cast On (knitting)
CraftSanity (crafting)
The Eazy Vegan (video cooking show)
Everyday Dish (vegan video cooking show)
Knitters Uncensored
Let's Get Baked (vegan radio cooking show - my new favorite!)
limenviolet (knitting)
NPR: Story of the Day
The Official Lost Podcast
Podrunner
Sex is Fun
This American Life
Vegan Radio
Vegan Freak Radio
Vegetarian Food for Thought
I only subscribe to the medical ones (especially trauma/Peds), and they are so awesome!! I should subscribe to some veg*n ones, those sound super helpful. I think podcasts are absolutely brilliant. freakin brilliant!
Compassionate Cooks (Vegetarian Food for Thought) by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau. It's actually vegan all the way. I love her! It took me quite a while to get through all her archived podcasts, so I"ve just now stared venturing out to various other podcasts, as I can only get my Compassionate Cooks fix once a week now! KMK-you have so many good suggestions. I can't wait to check them out! I've been searching for some environmental onces recently...stumbed accross a few decent ones that I can't think of the name of...
I haven't gotten into the whole podcast thing... I'm pretty slow to stuff like that (it took me months and months to get facebook, and then to figure out how it all worked). So, what exactly is a podcast? Just pre-recorded voice or audio? ??? I feel kind of stupid asking.
Yeah, it's basically a pre-recorded radio show / talk show. Some have stories, some have news, some just have people talking about a certain topic. There are also video podcasts, like some of the cooking shows I mentioned. I just watch those on my computer. You can subscribe to podcasts in itunes (for free), which means that when a new one comes out, it is automatically downloaded. Some podcasts update every day, some every week, some every month, etc. They're really nice to have for walking to class or doing busy work. Even if you don't have an ipod, you can still download most podcasts from their websites and play them on your computer--just google them.
KMK, I subscribed to the "Sex is Fun" podcast. I really enjoyed it. The one I listened to last night was about teaching Sex Ed. Very interesting.

Ranu, I looked up info on Elsie Escobar...do you practice Anusara Yoga? Aside from her podcast?

I did as well and it is very entertaining! I just listened to the sex in popular culture one while I was at the gym.
One podcast not mentioned that I listen to is Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. Very interesting because he talks about topics that normally you wouldn't think about. And I'm a history major, which means I'm a little bit of a history buff.
Yeah, Sex is Fun is a really good one. They're good about putting podcasts out on a regular basis too. I listen to it at the gym all the time as well!
The sex ed ones recently have been really educational.
So you can't use regular mp3 players to listen to them? Poo poo.
Yes you can! You can use a different podcatcher. This website can help you choose the right one:

Not aside from her podcast, but I switch it up with Hillary's, Dave Farmar and some other yoga podcasts. They make it pretty convenient!
after reading this thread, i went and dled all of the vegan freak podcasts, i used to listen to them every once in a while, but i just downloaded them all. yay.
what are the cooking podcasts like? is it like a cooking show without the pictures?

Two of the cooking shows I listed (Eazy Vegan and Everyday Dish) are videos. Let's Get Baked is just audio, so yeah, they give the recipe and it's basically them cooking the recipe from start to finish. They also invite musicians, from local to well-known, to help them cook the dish, and there is music mixed in. Alicia Silverstone was on one time. It's really neat. You can pick up a lot from just the audio.
KMK, since you recommended the "Sex is Fun" podcast, I'm directing this question to you. Anyone else feel free to chime in!
Anyway, did you listen to the 5/21/08 podcast? They were talking a little bit about how food affects your sex drive. I was disappointed in many of the things Kidder said about eating a vegetarian diet. Also, it seemed like Laura Radd ( who is veg) was trying to avoid talking about it. I could tell she didn't agree with him. I wish she would've spoken up a little more though. But then they got into a dairy conversation that was equally frustrating.
Ugh. It just bothered me because I really like their podcast, and that kinda put a bad taste in my mouth.
Ah, you're ahead of me, lotus!
I'll have to listen. If it's offensive, we should write in!
Laura Rad is rad though. I love her. I secretly want to be Laura Rad and work at a sex toy shop.
I'ma listen to it right now! Thanks for the heads up!
Ah, so I totally switched from hating Kidder and loving Laura to hating Laura and loving Kidder just because he's lactose intolerant!
Meh. Typical failed vegetarian.
