:D AH! my favourite brand of humour! (aaaah! Brit spelling! whee)
I enjoy any good bit from Monty Python's Flying Circus (their movies are great, too), and the occasional Red Dwarf.
as for literature, I consider Douglas Adams to be a wonderful comedic writer, at least in my experience with all of the books in the "Hitchhiker" series. I've not seen/heard any, but I've been told that the old bbc tv show and radio broadcasts of the HHG series are also quite funny. AND, did you know that Douglas Adams appeared twice on Monty Python's Flying Circus, the first time being in episode #42??? Or so I have read...

The Goodies--like the Muppet Show with humans! (Or do I mean that TMS is the Goodies with puppets?) "Goodie goodie, yum yum!"
My Family
Waiting for God
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps
Rosemary and Thyme (not specifically a comedy, but has its funny moments)
Does anyone out there remember "No Honestly"?
...and others too numerous to mention! Back in the 70's, the LWT or Thames logo was enough to ensure good laughs!

Rosemary and Thyme....great show. I was thinking of it when I saw this, but its not a comedy. ;) I saw a couple on late night PBS, then rented the DVDs What happened to it? There doesn't seem to be any more seasons. :'(

From what I hear and read on the Net, our dear Felicity is not well. She has terrible arthritis in her hands and other issues. Sigh. Such a good actress. The last time I saw her on British TV (via satellite) her hands were painful to even look at.

No one has mentioned "Little Britain" so I will. The first "series" or season was side-splitting funny. The second one got a little tedious carrying on with characters from the first season that they should have been done with (Vicky Pollard for instance) but introduced new characters that weren't so funny (the projectile vomiting lady). We rented them on DVD. Did anyone notice that South Park's episode that involved Bono and the world record poop also had him begging for biddy like the 40-someone guy on Little Britain? I think it was more than coincidence.

All I know of is keeping up appearances, the black adder, benny hill, are you being served the one that's on Saturday night at ten o clock on channel twenty one and i used to watch coupling to when it was on.
Did anybody ever see when the "are you being served" cast instead of getting thir retirement benefits their boss puts their money in a hotel and they own it? It was something like that. I kinda liked that one
Does anybody remember one about a millionaire who always chased this housewife who was married asking her to leave her husband? She had two grown sons in the show. What was that called? I can't remember for the life of me.

as a brit, i like some of our comedy, but not by anymeans nearly all of it. lots of it really makes me cringe, infact. british comedy is really very diverse- some is very dry, some very self depreciating, some very wry, some plain bizarre, some drole, some obviously designed for those with the sense of humour of14 year old boys... etc. the only thing that i feel it really all has in common, is that the accents don't tend to be american.
that said... i can't watch very much american comedy at all... it all seems very much 'dummed down' and generally unfunny to me... i'm probably not used to humour on that wavelength or of that style. and canadian comedy... especially the stuff out of quebec... yeah, i'm just not getting that either.
