Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
Hi, name's Slaughter (Last name) I've been vegan for 4 years in November. 3 of which where served in Lexington ky.
I absolutely love the description on your profile :)
thank you, but trail and error is to blame. 8-)
Trail and error is the best way, you never know which path you'll end up on :P
Hey, just found this site and thought i would sign up, I was actually looking for an article on vegetables for my turtles. ;D My latest hobby is my turtles, Bobby and Robson who i love to pieces!! I've been vegetarian for 13 years (im now 22), my mum use to take to a horse rescue place and one fateful trip i found a leaflet on how cruelly animals are kept for slaughter. :o i was made to continue to eat chicken for the next year but then i managed to get that cut out as well. i've never eaten fish so this was never an issue.
i have also cut out most dairy bar cheese. ive tired the vegan stuff but it just doesnt cut it. plus money is tight at the moment and cheese sandwiches have become my main staple of food, which is even worse considering i have a mild intolerance to wheat. But hopefully from this site i can build up some recipes which arent too expensive to make and wont take much time to prepare...and maybe get rid of this cheese addiction. i really want to be a fully fledged vegan!
i am originally from the UK but for the last 6 months i have been living in Dubai with my boyfriend. I am training to be an environmental lawyer but needed some cash so now im working for a law firm here as a paralegal. my parents also live in new zealand so i go there as much as i can to see them.
il prob be around quite a bit, i get bored at work and spend my time on forums.
Welcome to vegweb and hooray for New Zealand parents!
This is a good idea. And it started a while ago. I am new to signing up to this site..Although I have been searching through the recipes for a few weeks trying to figure out how to transition into vegitarian and finally vegan. It has been a little nerveracking..trying to figure out the best subs.
I've lived in Mass for about a year and a few months. I moved down here in January of last year (Jan 1st to be exact. Starting the new year fresh). Prior to I grew up in the quiet state of maine. I am 25 and a lesbian. :) I actually met my wonderful fiancee on..........wait for it..... MYSPACE.
I like to listen to all sorts of music and read, write, learn, dance, sing, doing crafts, sewing, baking, cooking, cleaning..Overall..I am a very interesting individual.
I work at Old Navy although they have cut my hours...my fiancee works with the developmentally disabled.
We live here with 3 cats(peri, pippie, and pewter) 1 rabbit (portia) , and a 30 gallon fish tank with a ton of mollies, platys, and other assorted fish. We also have a wonderful roommate that we live with who has been our best friend for a while...
Hmmm..think thats about it :):)
Hi all! My name is Jen. I've been a veggie for about 13 years, since I was 15 yrs old. I work as an LPN in a subacute rehab nursing center and am working on becoming an RN. I live with my BF of 3 yrs, who is a total meat-head, but I still love him. It does make eating together difficult at times, but for the most part we make it work. I found this site awhile ago, but I didn't realize there was a forum until today! It is nice to be here and hopefully I will get to chat with a lot of you all!
hey welcome sweetpea and jen.
Come join us all in the forums...everyone is nice and helpful. Hope you enjoy it!
Helloo everybody!
... It's time to introduce myself...
I'm Dania, 19 , in school
I live in a small town in the south of Oregon, I was born in California though.
I'm a dreamer. I like the idea of making Earth a better place, I question things a lot. I want to learn more about everything..
oh yeah, I became vegan because I can't comprehend the cruelty behind the little packages humans buy at the store.
there's a pic of me in my profile.
Welcome to VegWeb, Dania! It's great to meet such a wise and open-minded youth. 8) Seriously. :>
Hello All! My name is Morgan, I'm 26 y/o, live with my awesome boyfriend of 3yrs and our lovely kitty Finleigh!!!
Hi,
My name is Andy and....i'm....yes i admit it...i'm addicted to smileys... >:D. I'm 37 going on 2. I follow a vegetarian diet and mostly vegan diet but i fall from grace :-\ way too often....
I'm originally from Brooklyn, lived for a few years in Nashville (i miss it there a lot) and moved to Seattle 1½ years ago where i've since met my current girlfriend and i'm loving the most vegan friendly city in the U.S. - still like a kid in a candy store (want a vegan donut shop - yeah, we got that; want a vegan pizza place - yeah, we got that, want a vegan ice cream shop - ah, NO - :'( but a boy can dream, can't he!)
Amongst my other habits of going hiking (though haven't been in a long time), reading, video games, movies, blah blah - i love to cook. I love the notion of taking bare ingredients and sculpting them into something new and different. I love looking at something with accomplishment and thinking "wait - *I* made that 8-)".
I'm also a bit inept in the kitchen (let's call it lack of patience, whatever...) - i am not afraid to be adventurous and try to make up weird stuff from scratch (the other day i had a kale salad topped with a peanut butter sauce i made - think akin to peanut thai...) - and to which the downside is, i've thrown a lot of stuff out because it's not fit for consumption (in case you're wondering - i finished the kale salad though - it was pretty good ::))
I tend to follow eastern philosophical views - ideally "hinduism".
Oh an by the by, when people ask me why I"m a vegetarian - i tell them quite frankly - "...it's not out of any misguided love for animals - it's out of my passionate hatred of all vegetation to which i've sworn to make it my life's work to kill every last one of them f*ers... before i die..." bwah hah hah hah
>:D
...uh oh, the men in the white suits are coming running - gotta go - bye, thanks for reading...
welcome Andy!! I might steal your reason for being veggie..... I like!!
Welcome to VegWeb, Dania! It's great to meet such a wise and open-minded youth. 8) Seriously. :>
Thanks! Heliamphora.... :)
Hi!
My name's Liz (Elsa's an old family nickname). I stumbled onto this site looking for a vegan bread recipe (which was awesome btw). I'm 22 y/o and new to the vegan lifestyle. I'm studying nutrition and dietics and chose to do a project on veganism. That project changed my life! I went cold turkey on all meat, eggs, and dairy, and am transitioning out things like soaps, makeup, etc.(This is mainly because I have to drive about an hour to shop for these items :-[ ).
I've lived my whole life in IL, though my boyfriend and I do plan on moving around after we both graduate. I have a dog, two cats, and a guinea pig. I'd love to have more animals, but space does not allow it.
Hi everyone!
I am gabrielle and new to the site. I just love all the recipes and the forums. Feels like home to me:) I have always been a relaxed vegetarian but recently did some reading on the issues and my whole family decided to go vegan. Two kids, two dogs, my husband and I all thought it would be this big sacrifice but it wasn't at all. It has made us all so happy and I am not really sure why. But we love it so here we are.
Um.....we live in the rainy NW (Oregon). I am doing my nursing prereqs at community college, I garden a little, walk a lot and am a big thrift store, garage sale shark. My husband is a contractor and working on converting our cars to hydrogen and making me a hydrogen generator so we can make some of our own electricity and clean the air at the same time. I am 41 and quit smoking 3 months ago, a big personal triumph.
Last night I made vegan peanut butter cups in a blatant attempt to avoid doing my math homework and my husband had to ground me from vegweb, much to the delight of my teenager.......they were slamming though. That's all about me.
Hi Gabrielle!
It's nice to see you on the boards. I live in Portland, too!
And congratulations on quitting smoking, that's a great thing to do for yourself.
Love,
Claire
Thanks Claire! I noticed you lived in my hood and read your posts with interest. We have a lot in common! I am looking forward to getting to know you!
On a side note I have to say this is the nicest damn board in the world. I have tromped around on craigslist, peta's board and lots other places and I have yet to see the kind of animosity here you see all over. What a great group of people you are! Thanks for existing!
Yeah, feel free to email me ... I'd like to get to know you too!
hey hey everyone :) I have been frequenting this site for a long time now, and only yesterday decided to finally sign up :D
anywho - a little about me...
I am Ellie - a 21 year old biomedical student from Australia - with hopes of studying a masters degree in norway in microbiology *sigh* So right now I am learning norwegian - just finished learning the alphabet - there's a start! ;)b
I have been a vegetarian since 2006 - I had quite eating red meat when I was 14, then i decided that I was just embarassing myself by saying I was vegetarian when i still ate chicken and fish -_- I wanted to be healthier considering my diet at 18 was chicken nuggets predominantly :-[ Hopefully one of the days I can fully veganise myself - with support of my vegan boyfriend. He made the transition overnight - I must admit, I do not posess such willpower :( One of my goals on this site is to try and find a great vegan cheese sauce - I am confident that as soon as I can find this I can finally make it over the hump!
You guys all seem super nice so I am glad I decided to sign up :D
Hi all happy vegans :)
I have also been borrowing recipes from vegweb for what feels like forever, but have only just really discovered this whole forum/social side of things and thought I should join in the introductions.
I'm 25, live in Auckland, New Zealand, and have been veg since being old enough/loud enough to say no to those awful chewy slices of animal the rest of my family call dinner, and have been getting progressively vegan since 2005. Until this year I've been quite strict at home/by myself, but less so when eating out/at other's houses , mainly because I don't like to make a fuss.
I'm married since January 2008 to a fantastic man who is super supportive of my choices, and actually loves my vegan baking/cooking.
I came here for recipe ideas but think I'll stay because of the people - as far as the internet goes, it's pretty amazing to find such an open-minded, friendly, accepting bunch of people :)
Then again, as we all know, veg*ns do it better :D
Yay, more antipodean VegWebbers! :> Welcome, Ellie and 'westies.
Well where to begin. I'm 25 years old. I graduated around 9/11 and went into the Navy after high school. I lived in Japan for two years, but buckled under the control and the fact I was in serious denial about my homosexuality. I was honorably discharged after a battle with an eating disorder. I moved back to Pennsylvania, met the love of my life and followed him to Florida. I lived in the Orlando area. I completed culinary school at a Le Cordon Bleu affiliate. After a bad car accident I moved back to Pa. WHY DID I EVER DO THIS?!!!! I now work at a country club making little compared to what I made in FL. I deal with a lot of stress and hassle which used to bog me down but I have now realized that I am me and work is work and I leave it at that. As you can tell I am an open book. I love veg web. Love being vegan. Love my two dogs. And most importantly I TRULY love life.

It's nice to meet you!
My sister is an MC2 in the Navy, and she's having a hard time with it as well. She is very liberal, has a Greenpeace sticker on her car, and hates being surrounded by a hierarchy that rewards stupidity. (Needless to say, I get frequent updates on how long she has left until her enlistment expires.)
I'm sorry that your road hasn't been smooth ... but it sounds like you've come out of it as a strong person.
It's a lucky thing to not only know, but like yourself.
Love,
Claire
