Yorkshire Puddings

I'm having another bash at making Yorkshire Pud's for Xmas dinner today, the last time I tried they were more like weapons than food, I threw one over my house!

Also we have a last minute guest also, a friend of my wife's apparently does not get on with her family and was planning on spending the day alone. So I have another guest to sample my Vegan Xmas Dinner which is a little more pressure on me!

I usually like to try things before I roll them out to the general public but today I am making an exception to that rule and making the puds and a chocolate cake and glaze I found on here.

Wish me luck!!!!

Hope everyone has a great day.

On one condition: if you manage it without the eggs, you MUST share recipe.

I have been told the secret, like that of good pancakes, is to let the batter stand several hours in the fridge?

True?

I just googled it--so it's just bits of greasy bread yeah? Hmm...couldn't you just use the outragiously big and easy bread recipe and bake it up in extra oiled cupcake tins? Well, from the pics I saw they do look like yummybits ofgoodness! Hope yours turn out really well!!

I thought for sure Parsley Soup had one but I just searched her site and came up empty there.  There is a recipe here:

although I don't know if you can get soyayougurt here....maybe just plain soygurt?

Also, vegansource.com and yumyum.com have some recipes for it

I remember my mom making yorkshire pudding when I was a kid.  Yeah....it's kinda greasy yummy!

Greasy bread?? (Yabbit looks way into the middle distance, exhaling through her nose). No, dear. The closest the US has come is the German popover. And that's a bit different. It's a batter pudding that swells up in the hot, hot oven.

But you've never had one, you don't know how good they can be. You are forgiven.

It's made from batter! Sort of like pancake batter, but they turn out crispy and savoury and awesome :)

That's what I was thinking. I have never seen one of these before, but they look a lot like popovers.

I don't remember it as being quite like a popover.  It was more like those german pancakes that puff all up and all.  She would make it in the drippings off a roast.  But then my mother was considered to be one of the worst cooks in at least 3 counties.

Sorry :( That's totally what it looks and sounds like from the pictures and recipes I've read--it said to pour your batter/dough into a pan with hot grease and bake...and they look like rolls so you know...greasy bread seemed like the appropriate termionology...kinda like punchkizes...fried sweet bread...oh whatever..I'm a totally ignorant American!  ;D

Turned out OK, nothing to write home about though, will keep trying!

Don't forget that you have to allow for how far above sea level you live when you're making a good Yorkshire Pudding! I made them in Britain at sea level for years but when I came to live in Canada at 2500ft above, my puddings would never rise to their full potential! You have to mess around with the oven temp and leave them in longer!! Just keep trying cos the perfect vegan YP is worth striving for!

Oh man I miss this stuff, I sort of converted my mom's recipe when we went GF, but it is much denser now.  I don't know how to work it with out the 4 eggs!  If this works for you you must tell us ASAP.
