you could, but it doesn't taste the same. Worcestershire sauce has a spicy, smokey, clovey, orangy flavor. Maybe you could use soy, but add some kick to it. I also don't think Worcestershire has as much salty flavor, so keep that in mind if you use soy....you may need to cut back on any other salt in the recipe.
Soy doesn't taste anything like Worchestershire.
A-1 is not a bad alternative & is vegan, in spite of being a 'steak' sauce. I LOVE A-1!!
I don't think soy sauce would give it the same BBQ-like flavor. I'm with Lezly on the A-1 idea, or maybe some BBQ sauce depending on what kind of flavor you were going for. You should try to find some vegan Worchestershire sauce for next time, though--mmm mmm, very yummy! Then you can use it for the Unbeef Stew on this site :)
Hmmm, soy sauce wouldn't quite be the same, but maybe in a pinch. I recently made a recipe that called for worcestershire, and I subbed some steak sauce, which worked well. (Just make sure to check the ingredients as some contain anchovies, like worcestershire.)
ok thanks!
What would you use worcestershire sauce for??? I've never used it before. ???
It's really just a seasoning to add flavour, from what I can tell. THere are recipes in How it All Vegan and Vegan Vittles for worcestershire sauce and they are simple to make. I suppose you could use soy sauce and molasses instead.

I was just about to say that. Thanks. I LOVED worcestershire, but I found out it wasn't vegan :( Bummer. I'll try the A1 sauce, though. Good thread.
