What's browning sauce?

I have to wean my hubby off sausages. I found this recipe: http://www.fatfreevegan.com/Meat_subs/1188.htm
It seems like something he might eat :-\ But I don't know what browning sauce is. Could liquid smoke substitute for it?

Sounds like Kitchen Bouquet or Maggi Sauce....it's also known as gravy browning. It's a mixture of spices and colorants (often caramel colouring) that makes your gravy brown and tasty. It would also help colour microwaved foods etc.
Thanks. Now I have to figure out where to borrow a pressure cooker. Then make it and cross my fingers that he likes it.
Hi T! I know you didn't ask for vegan sausage ideas, but these are really good, and don't require browning sauce

Thanks, between this and another couple of breakfast sausage recipes, I should be able to fix something that he'll like.
He has a particular love of bratwurst and I'm hoping that it'll be a good enough substitute. I keep showing him articles on how bad meat products are for him and I think he's coming around. He *asked* me to find a substitute for his morning eggs! The sausage substitute is my idea but I've already run it past him and he's agreed to try them.
Good luck! And a gold star to your hubby for being willing to try something new!

I made this over the weekend and it's very good! Though y'all might like to know ;D
My kids are in love with those patties; when I make them, I maybe get half of one! I always get nervous when I make a food recommendation. Personal preferences are so... personal. Glad you enjoyed those, too!
I like Boca brats myself.
