Watermelon seeds
Did you know you can eat these? Not that I thought it was bad to swallow them when eating a watermelon, but you can roast them and eat them just like pumpkin seeds.
I was sitting here eating watermelon and looking at all these great seeds wishing I could grow some (all my pots are being used for tomato and basil plants!) and so I googled directions on how to conserve watermelon seeds, and low and behold, there is a recipe for roasting them. Turns out they are a good source of protein and other stuff. It suggested to dry them out, then grind them and use them as a flour replacement.
I don't think I will be swallowing so many now, or if I do I will chew them up, or spit them out to make flour out of them. That is cool! How many watermelon seeds have I just spit out and wasted all of my life?
Never really thought to roast my own, but when I was a kid in Thailand (army brat, was there for two years) we would eat them all the time. You could buy them in the stores roasted and salted, much lik sunflower seeds are available here.
