Veggie pate' question

What machine would I use make a veggie pate'? Just for the sake of the question, what machine would grind up a carrot into an absolute paste? I've always been curious about this. I know a food processor won't grind a veggie like a carrot to this degree. There must be some kind of grinder for this? A regular meat grinder wouldn't do it I'm sure. Thanks.

I'm inclined to say that no device short of a juicer would turn raw carrot into a liquid (or goo).  You'd probably have to cook the carrot(s) slightly, which could then be pureed in a blender or food processor.  I'm pretty sure that's how most commercial baby food is made, at least.

Perhaps grate it on a very fine (spice) hand grater. That would work really well if the carrots are boiled briefly beforehand. What other flavors are in your pate?

At the risk of Meggs (or anyone else!) jumping on me  ;) for mentioning it yet again......
VITAMIX!
simple. done. Carrot paste in about 30 seconds.
The thing grinds nuts and bolts (yeah the metal kind) to dust... it can make a mean carrot paste. :)

But vitamix fabulousness aside, for a veggie pate you'd want some texture so a good food processor would be fine for the carrot, ovbiously the carrot wouldn't be the binder in the pate for that smoothness I'd suggest mushrooms or maybe sunflower seed paste...
MMmmm herbed sunflower seed paste ;)

Ground black (or indeed green, if you like them) olives make a good base for a pate, nice and spreadable.

I always add a little agar to thicken.  Not too much, or it will get a gel-like consistency.

Do you mix it in cold water and then boil it and then add it mdvegan?
Can you post your recipe? ;)

I second JH! Those little green cups look tre sophisticated like a good pate should!

I have been toying with a faux gras (play on nasty Foie gras).  That is nasty dead bird organ, mushrooms, smoked dead pig parts, and onion.

Perhaps black beans, mushrooms, onions , Bac-Os or powdered smoke.

I like the carrot idea, but I belong to Beaneaters Anonymous.  We can't have meetings for rather obvious reasons.  Our motto begins...beans, beans the musical fruit... The 12-steps of our program go into depth about how to quick-soak dried beans and/or use a can opener, none of us are making any progress, unless you count eating more beans as progress.

Hi, I am Lady Dragonfly and I ate 12 cans of beans last week BY MYSELF.

LDF, please DO toy with that blackbean pate...if you don't I will! Race you! LOL
(How do we have a blind test on here, to see who wins the best recipe? And what would the prize be?)
Your BA club story cracked me up!! My DH would tell you I would appear to be a charter member. He can "tell by the smell" as the old PineSol ads used to say!
Thanks for the giggle! ;) ;D

This eggplant walnut pate recipe was just emailed to me, it looks pretty good:

Ingredients:
1 large eggplant
1 cup walnut pieces
2 teaspoons fresh gingerroot, peeled, grated, and finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, mashed
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
Salt and hot pepper sauce to taste

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Pierce

the eggplant with a fork in several places and bake until very soft, about 45 minutes.

2. While the eggplant is baking, grind the walnuts in a food processor until very fine, and set aside.

3. Remove the eggplant from oven, slash to let steam escape, drain off any liquid, and scrape the pulp into a food processor with the gingerroot, garlic, and olive oil. Process until smooth.

4. Add the ground walnuts and allspice, and process until smooth.

5. Season to taste with the salt and hot pepper sauce. Spoon into a small loaf dish and chill several hours or until firm.

Ok so a Vitamix will even make a pate out of an orange peal? That's actually what I would like to experiement with, various fruit peelings, even bananas. I heard the zest has like 10x the nutrients that the juice has. It's just a thing I would like to play with. Also if I can pate an orange peeling I'm thinking I might also be able to make my fruit smoothies. The blender I use puts a lot of air into the solution and I'm wondering if that air destroys some of the nutrients. This is really important to me because, as an over-the-road driver, I make up about ten days of food at a time and the quality of my food is extremely important to me, and with it not degrading ect.

If you have a Vitamix will you try making a pate out of an orange peeling for me and tell me how it turned out before I buy one, please. Tell me the consistency and if it tasted any good ect.

I can't cook anything first, that would certainly destroy some of the nutrients. Eatting vegan while on the road is a serious challenge for me. It's nearly impossible to be going into a grocery store with big rig in hand.  Thank you, peace.
