Vegetarian Eggs?

An omni friend told me that the couple in front of her at the grocery store the other day were buying "vegetarian eggs." She said they were made to look like real eggs, but the ingredients said they were made out of soy and stuff. I was like "I think I would have heard of those..." Any ideas? ???
i am pretty sure i've seen vegetarian eggs at the store.
they are "cruelty free" eggs from chickens fed "vegetarian" (aka natural) diets.
My mom asked me once if I could eat the vegetarian fed chicken eggs...I just looked at her like "are you serious?"..and yeah...she was--why don't people get that chickens are supposed to eat a vegetarian diet? They are not supposed to be fed feed made from the spilled chum collected off the slaughter house floors (totally gross that so many livestock animals are really fed that!).
Cuz, technically, they aren't supposed to eat a vegetarian diet...chickens are omnivores, they eat bugs as well as grains & seeds. That's why they scratch, they're looking for bugs! ;)b
Vegetarian eggs? hmm I purchased powdered egg replacement that was just down right gross .. it got tossed. Dunno, maybe it was just the brand ??
There is a guy about a mile away from my home, that has happy free range chickens :)>>> If I need an egg on rare occasion I go there and buy a few, also visit the happy goats.
Hmm. What brand did you buy, and how did you use it? I've had good luck with ener-g and bob's red mill egg replacers.
I know people who thought things like Egg Beaters were not really egg. *sigh*
My (omni) roommate thought this until just recently. She would bake things and say, "Here, you can have these, I used egg replacer!" Sweet, but I was kind of frustrated to found out later that she thought egg beaters were vegan. I had to explain that they are just egg whites in carton.
And it usually says right on the carton "MADE WITH REAL EGGS."
Even worse than these examples, my mother worked at a nursing home. She told one of the cooks that they couldn't serve pancakes to a resident who is allergic to eggs. The response she got was "we don't add any eggs", so my mom checked the ingredients on the package and, of course, the ingredients included powdered whole eggs.

I get the feeling you used egg replacer for standalone eggs, not replacing an egg or two in a baked good like a cake! Vegan egg replacers are never meant to be eaten by themselves, they're just for adding to recipes to simulate what an egg can do (think binding, not flavor).
Also.. I guess the mystery of the vegetarian eggs were never solved, and since the post was from 2008, I don't expect any conclusive answer but I remember reading in VegNews several years ago that there was a mock egg product for sale in Britain that really did look like eggs. I think I've heard of a Chinese company selling egg-alikes too, although I doubt either of these were really want the OP's friend got since those 'eggs' are probably not for sale in a normal grocery store.
On a side note: I got into a big argument with an employee at my local Whole Foods once, explaining that you're not a vegetarian even if the meat you're eating was vegetarian. She was pretty insistent that the beef she was sampling was "vegetarian-friendly", because the beef itself had been grain-fed. XD
(about the eggs: i haven't heard of them either)
Ask her if she'd consider eating a vegetarian person. Like Hannibal Lecter did. With fava beans and a nice Chianti, of course! ::) After all, that would be "a vegetarian" meal, wouldn't it, if you ate a vegetarian?
This is why I love you. :)>>>

I think the question is: Why would you really WANT to eat an egg replacement? We have devices to replace eggs in baking, we have tofu scramble--why is there still the need to put whole cooked menstrual byproducts in your mouth? I just can't believe there's a market for that.
I thought about this thread a couple days ago because I saw these kids (college) at the grocery store reading an egg carton out loud. They were like "Vegetarian Eggs?" How is that possible? I didn't want to get in their business, so I didn't say anything, but soon after, one of them said "oohh, the chickens are given vegetarian feed. They're just normal eggs."
