vegan powdered sugar???

Ummm, I see a lot of recipes that call for vegan powdered sugar, but I'm having a hard time finding it. I stopped in WF today and they said they DO NOT think their 365 brand is vegan. They are going to check to see if they do carry any for me. They are also going to check if there is such thing as powdered beet sugar (which someone in the store said is always vegan and can be used in any recipe that calls for sugar...) hummm...any one know for sure about that? Any one know of any brands?

I use Wholesome Sweeteners brand powdered sugar.

All organic sugar is vegan, so if Whole Foods carries organic powdered sugar it'll be safe.  Whatcha making us?

frosting and cool crap like that... ;-) yes, it is organic...are you sure that means no bone char? cause they had organic regular (granulated) sugar and organic VEGAN granulated sugar...so why not just label them all vegan? Not that I'm doubting you, HH  :P.

I just discovered recently that you can make your own powdered sugar. If you can find some good regular sugar, throw it into a food processor or strong blender (I like the vita-mix), it turns to powder. It's so fun to do too!  :>

Guh.  I couldn't find anything about it online, but one of the veg magazines had an article about sugar a year or so ago and it stated that if sugar is processed with bone char it couldn't be labeled as organic.

i found this out too...2 cups of granulated sugar AND 2 TBSP CORN STARTCH....makes powdered sugar, in the food processor...hummm

but what HH said about organic sugar seems to be true also, on some sites, including PETA, I think....

Florida Crystals. They boast about being animal friendly right on the back of their package.

There isn't anything else IN it, per se, but it is processed with bone char.  Or, it can be.  Unless it says its organic or vegan, you can't tell with sugar.

VHZ, I'm also fairly positive that if it's organic, it's vegan.  WF is weird about just randomly labeling certain things "vegan."  They do it with their chocolate chips too, when truth be told, most any cheapo chips at a Stop and Shop are vegan.  I think they're just trying to up the appeal (and/or be able to charge more).  BUT, they don't want to label them all vegan so as to not weird certain people out.  Doesn't necessarily mean the other things aren't vegan if they're not labeled.
