Vegan Pasty Recipe

I am a huge fan of danishes and turnovers and I am wondering if there is a vegan recipe for the pastry part of them. A lot of the recipes I have looked at require lard or butter and I am wondering if vegetable shortening would work. I am really not sure how the whole substitution thing works at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here's one! It's for apricot pastry but you could adapt, or course.

It looks really incredibly delicious.
That recipe looks delicious I don't eat danishes a lot but about twice a year I crave them like nobody's business hopefully this recipe will hit the spot. One question when mixing the dough are there supposed to be bits of "butter" that aren't completely mixed in? i had difficulty understanding this and I couldn't tell by looking at the picture. mmmmm pastry is in my near furture
Yes, that's exactly it. You want pockets of butter which will melt later to produce the pockets. Hence the importance of keeping the dough from getting too warm before it's baked. I've never made this exact one, but I have done similar things, and it works like a charm. ;)b
Pretty pic, by the way, veela! And welcome to vegweb!
Thanks you very much I can't wait to make this!!!
I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but they look good to me!

mmm my favorite pastry is called a seed snatcher, i dont quite remember what it is in danish, but its a copenhagen treat, only made there, its a long pastry, wrapped with apple preserves in the middle with butter on top and seeds sprinkled on, sesame, poppy, and other seeds that i dont quite remember. ahhh. even though i was vegan in copenhagen, i had one like almost every day. it was pretty bad. haha. i mean... AWESOME!
Hahaha bear claws, we call those beaver tails here. Not quite the same as pasrty but still very tasty. No I know how to make a vegan version of those. My first vegan Christmas shall have all kinds of goodies it seems.

I'm sorry, but beaver tails are NASTY.

To each their own I can see how some might find them to sweet or an odd texture. I've only had them a couple of times because one is usually enough when it comes to beaver tails.
