Using Nutritional Yeast Cheese Sauce on Pizza

I want to grill pizza tonight for dinner and I know my FYH mozzarella won't melt on the grill because there's no upper heat source (lord knows I'm not about to turn on my oven in 100+ degree heat!) I need some advice...
When using a cheese sauce like this one on pizza, would you use it as a typical cheese topping in addition to the tomato sauce base, or would you use it as the first layer, in place of the sauce? Thanks!
I've used it in place of the sauce completely. It works very well! Also, I've added some tomato-y goodness to the 'cheese' sauce and that works great too. What toppings are you using, out of curiosity?
Thanks, SB! Maybe I'll just mix a little pizza sauce into the cheese sauce. My toppings are pretty boring - onions and Tofurkey Italian Sausage slices. I prefer my veggies on the side! :)
I love making sausage pizzas with NY sauce! I bet it's going to be delicious ;)b
I usually pot it on top of the veggies, bake it for about 10 minutes and then put it under the broiler for a few minutes. But that wouldn't work for you since you want to leave the oven off.
ummm..speaking of using nutritional yeast sauce, in a somewhat unrelated theme:
i halved the mac n cheese meal starter recipe from this site, added some cumin, and used it on burritos last night. :o :o :o
omg so good. i can only imagine how good it would be on pizza. but i think i'd put it under the veggies or mix it with tomato sauce, as it is kinda grainy by itself.
This was sooooo good!!! Thanks for the advice! I halved the cheese recipe and mixed in 2 big spoonfuls of pizza sauce to the final product. This was my first time grilling pizza (used a George Foreman grill) and it came out sooo much better than expected. I had read that if the dough is too thick, the center won't cook, but I kept the lid on and cooked it a while - the dough cooked up better than in the oven! Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside. I used Trader Joe's Garlic and Herb Pizza Dough. It went well with the cheese sauce (and Tofurkey sausage!) I posted pictures under the recipe.
Go grill some pizza! :)
Your pizza looks yum yum. ;)b..I loved grilled pizza. We just had it a few days ago. I did mine on the gas grill outside and used homemade dough with fresh tomatoes, garlic and basil...more of a margherita pizza- scrumpdilliumptious.
