are there any calorie free sweeteners that are vegan?
i've heard that splenda isn't vegan.. and if it's not, please don't go into details because i've had it in the past.
can i buy any in the supermarket?
After reading all of this, I think I'm going to stick with my organic raw sugar!
I'm curious if anyone has used/heard of "Organic Zero" before? I saw it at a restaurant and it claims to be organic and natural with 0 calories. That sounds too good to be true! My mom can't have much sugar, so she's always looking for an alternative. I looked it up on Wikipedia but I don't really trust that info!
Hmmm. I've never heard of that. I'd be wary though. It's hard to say, because who knows how our bodies process it at this point?
I did some poking around, and somewhere they mentioned that Organic Zero is not meant to be used in baking, only in coffee/tea and similar things. Who knows.
I belong to a Yahoo! group for weight control support and I hear pretty horrid things about Splenda, which btw is not available in Europe AFAIK. They have cyclamates and (I think) aspartame, and saccharine, all of which taste bitter to me. But anyway...my Y! friends complained of migraines, fluid retention, and stomach cramps with longterm Splenda use. I know each person's body reacts differently, but I'm with y'all..."chlorinated sugar" just doesn't do it for me.
I tried using fructose, but it just isn't very sweet to my tongue.
if anyone was going to have splenda health related issues it would be me, becaue I consume lots of it. There really aren't any side effects that I have ever had.
no calorie sugar just makes my day
Side effects don't always happen overnight, you know... Some people experience negative effects right away, some won't experience it for years (cancer??), and some probably never will. Like anything, it varies from person to person. I won't go on a tirade about it because I'm sure you're smart enough to know that, and what you put into your own body is your business.
But the statement "no calorie sugar" is...incorrect. I know I'm being a stickler, but it's really "no calorie chemicals." Just sayin' for anyone who does care. >:D
lol. yeah.
i get sick from having real sugar since im not used to it anymore, oddly enough.

Yup. Splenda is closer in structure to the chemicals found in pesticides than to sugar. And its having zero calories means your body doesn't recognize it as food. Because it isn't food. And then it hits the intestines and your body can lap up all the chlorine for the low, low cost of zero calories! What a deal! ::)
