Summer Soups?

I have heard that there are soups prepared for the summer weather.  So my question is what exactly makes a summer-style soup?  Is it the spices that go are used for preparation, the lightness/heartiness, or the temperature at which it is eaten?  Does anyone have any or know of any tried and true summer soup recipes?  The idea of enjoying a delicious cup of soup during the warm, sunny summer days sounds really comforting as I do enjoy soups every now and then.

I think gazpacho is a summer soup, but anytime that I make it, it just ends up tasting like salsa! lol

I don't have any tried and true recipes but I think summer soups are ones that are light AND served cold, like melon soups, cucumber soups, gazpachos, as mentioned. Things like that.

i like the idea of eating raw or mostly raw soups during the summer. there is so much beautiful produce in the summer, you should take advantage of the high quality and flavor. when i have good produce on hand, especially fresh tomatoes, i would never dream of cooking it! I've tried gazpacho before, but it does taste like salsa to me. but you know what? i really like salsa (i eat it plain) so i just make salsa instead!

A lot of soups can be eaten cold out of the fridge for a refreshing treat. I just had one posted, the Happy Tummy Vegetable Soup, which is just as good cold as hot. I think I've submitted some "creamy" zucchini and leek soups (with soymilk or other, as you will) which can be chilled and served that way, "Vichyssoise," as it's known in fancy restaurants. "Ajo blanco" is on this site too, made with almonds and served chilled. Delicious!

There are more chilled soups on VegWeb (just search Soups) but I can't get past page 1 of the search results for some reason. These are 2 of mine that I know are good.
