Sugar Skulls

My friend is sending me some sugar skulls from Mexico and I am still considering whether or not to even eat them. Thought I'd ask just in case though, anyone know what kind of sugar they use to make them? I know it's granulated but since it's not from America I wasn't sure about the sugar thing. :help!:
It might possibly be turbinado. Not sure.
What about what it's held together with? I've been looking up the ingredients and there really seems to be only two: sugar (have seen it as granulated) and I think something called meringue which I think has eggs in it?
They aren't vegan, normally, but you can make them!

I've also seen vegan pastry powder, or something, that people have used in the sugar skulls, but I can't find it here, it's from Europe. :P
I would check to make sure these are sugar skulls meant for eating. Many sugar skulls are made for decoration purposes, not eating. Sugar skulls are usually made with non-vegan meringue powder, which is basically powdered egg whites.
Thanks everyone. I haven't received them yet so I'm not even sure how they're decorated nor do I know exactly what's in it so I'll play it safe and not eat them.
I highly doubt that these sugar skulls are vegan. They made with kids in mind.
Hey! Reviving this thread to see if anyone knows how to preserve a sugar skull? My house makes everything melt and get gross and I was hoping to somehow preserve the sugar skull so that I could keep it for as long as possible.

Freezer?
Well, they're made to last a looooong time. My parents had the same one the entire rime I was growing up, so unless you're someplace pretty humid, it should be fine in a cabinet away from heat.
That's the problem, my house is extremely humid. So far it's holding up but I'm afraid that as the summer progresses it's going to melt and/or sweat.
