Strange potato question

As many of you know, I eat microwaved potatoes for breakfast instead of bread. I just wondered, has anyone tried sweet toppings on a potato? Like say PB and jelly, or just jelly, or applesauce, or some such? Yes, I know--if I want to know all I have to do is try it. But I'm aware this is pretty weird. Knowing as I do that weirdness is a common thing when it comes to food, I'm asking. Has anyone already done this and knows that a) it works or b) it's a nightmare?

Sounds gross.

Agreed.  Yuck.  If you really want to try it, how about on a small bite of potato, rather than the whole thing?

I dunno, doesn't sound totally gross to me....but I'll pretty much eat anything, like a garbage disposal....

I don't think it sounds gross at all!  PB is good on just about anything IMO, so I definitely think that would be good.  So why not jelly too?  Maybe EB and cinnamon sugar & raisins would be good as well.  Try it!! :)

maybe the peanut butter, I don't know about the jam

maybe like a thai peanut sauce would work...... I put sweet things on baked sweet potatoes or yams.... But I've never tried with a regular ol' tater.

I think a plain tayto will stand up to whatever I throw at it...and I have thrown some weird stuff! I need to get some PB. But "butter" and jam sounds good.

Mind you, I put miso on toast sometimes.

Sounds kinda gross to me...but hell, someone has to try it.  Let us know!

You could maybe try some mint sauce ...

But I also think the peanut butter would rather fit than  jam...

I think fufuberry's idea for a Thai peanut sauce would be good. The one from Whole Foods, I think it's the Organic 365 brand, is quite good.

Earth Balance, brown sugar and cinnamon is good on yams. It might work on a baked potato.

I don't think it sounds gross or weird but then again I eat crazy combos all the time.  I've done the apple sauce w/potatoes and its not bad but the jam sounds really good.  I know you were asking about sweet but you shoud try mixing some vegan mayo, sricha (if you have it) and braggs (the braggs is definetly optional) and dip your potato in that.  I usually use about 30g of nasoyonaise and 20g of sricha and 1tbsp of braggs.

I am definitely going to do applesauce, partly because I have a homemade batch in the fridge. I asked about sweet because I miss toast and jelly/preserves and can't eat bread. I already do a lot of savoury breakfast taytos but I miss the sweet ones. I knew you'd support me, WS. I was just waitin' for you to post!! :)>>>

I would have done it this AM but I woke up at an ungodly hour (early) and DH kindly made brekky for me.

Of course!  You and I are both miso and spud-buds :)

Well I did it and it works. I tried butter and applesauce and it was good! But it needs a more powerful sweetness, and maybe juuuuust a touch of salt for the bland potato. Miso and jelly? Hmmm.
The potatoes we have are those pale yellowish, thin-skinned ones that are kinda watery anyway. What they call "new" potatoes, even though they're not the little baby ones. So yeah, they're kinda meh in flavour anyway, and the sweetness wasn't a bad idea.

Why don't you just try sweet potatoes for breakfast?

Now that's what I'm talking about!  Yummers.

I have. They're not in season now. And I wanted bread and jam, so potato and jam turns out to be a viable substitute.

It makes sense that potatoes would be good with applesauce because potato pancakes, (latkes), are served with it.
I dunno about the jam though... Hashbrowns are good with maple syrup, so I guess sweet could work. I just am not liking the thought of fruit with taters... personal preference I suppose. Now PB and pickles on a baked potato could be good!
