Soymilk and Slow Cookers

I just purchased a Crock Pot. I've read that cow's milk breaks down if cooked for an extended period of time in a slow cooker. Has anyone had any problems with other milks (soy, rice, oat, etc) breaking down while cooking? I don't want to trying cooking any "cream based" recipes in the thing unless I know it's okay. Thank you!  :)

I always add it near the end. The only one that I have tried that stays is coconut milk. have fun with your new slow cooker!

I've heard that soymilk breaks down. There have been mentions of that in threads on this board.

Robin Robertson has a book with vegan recipes for slow cookers. You might want to see if you can borrow a copy. I think it's called "Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker."

As with cow's milk products, add them in the last 20 min or so of cooking. Soy milk can create the dreaded "oil slick" if it's cooked too long, as well as separating. Not attractive, tho of course I don't think it would actually harm you.
