Rawness

I was wondering if there are any Raw vegans here?

I tried the raw thing for 30 days, just as an experiment of sorts. I felt amazing; twice the energy, much deeper sleeps, and my skin became smoother and softer. Very cool results. But it was really hard to do, especially since I don't have all the equipment like a dehydrator etc.

One thing that I did take from it was to continue having green smoothies every day.

Can anyone recommend a good Raw uncook book? I bought one for the experiment, but most of the recipes required dehydrating.

Thanks

Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Food By Renée Loux Underkoffler

I checked this out of the library, and it had a lot of useful info.  It did rely on a dehydrater a bit, but I think that goes along with the raw lifestyle.

what do you put in your green smoothies?
more fruit than greens or more greens than fruit?
i'd love to find something to give me a little more energy.

This is a really good book, about the benefits of greens (especially smoothies). The author has quite a few smoothie combinations.

Thanks for the recommends on the books.

My personal fav. is:
1/2 C fresh pineapple
1 Large handful Spinach
1/4 Avocado
1C filtered water

Put it all in a blender till smooth...YUM!

A friend of mine who is not veggie drinks them too and she like peach in hers.

try going to some raw internet forums, like www.rawfoodtalk.com/index.html

I've heard that most people only use the dehydrator for transitioning into raw - after you get used to raw food you will not need it anymore. you can get a lot of ideas on this site, it actually kinda made me kinda want to go raw (until i started reading more about the health risks involved) good luck, anyway! i hope you can make a raw diet work for you - just keep your diet healthy and balanced.  ;D

Check your library for raw titles - I've found it to be a great source for all sorts of cookbooks, and as I've said in other threads, you can "try before you buy"

The Candle Cafe cookbook is vegan but includes several raw food recipes - you might want to check it out.

You might want to do a cleanse like the Master Cleanse before you transition to raw...I've seen that recommended on a lot of the raw food forums which are also really helpful. I try to incorporate as much raw as possible but I really enjoy cooking so I don't think I will ever be 100% raw!
