Purple sticky rice

I bought some "purple sticky rice"  from the bulk bins at Central Market in San Antonio.  It has cooking instructions on the label but I was wondering what would be good to serve with it.  I thinking of making it "plain" as a side dish first but I need ideas for the "main" course.  Has anybody tried it?

I've had black rice, but it certainly wasn't sticky, though it did turn purple in cooking. Flavourwise, I was underwhelmed. If it weren't prohibitively expensive ($5 a pound here) I might put it in burritos or some such.

Wow, I've never heard of it. I'm going to San Antone in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to cruise the city for some good shoppin. What area is the central market at? or is there more than one? Also, any good veggie restaurants there?

Central Market is at 4821 Broadway St.  http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=4821%20Broadway&csz=San%20Antonio%2C%2BTexas&country=us
It's HEB's upscale version, like United's Market Street grocery that I loved in Lubbock.  (Miss their salad bar so much!)

Green Vegetarian Cuisine, San Antonio's only (so far) totally vegetarian restaurant opened in January at 1017 N. Flores.  They  have a website:

We were planning on eating there but my DH missed the exit on I-35 and the next one after that and we ended up on 281 so we ate at Whole Foods. It actually doesn't have very many veggie options as far as cooked food on their little cafe's menu.  But as far as vegetarian groceries, I think I like Whole Food's better than Central Market.  Central Market didn't have the Fak'n Bak'n tempeh product that I was planning on buying.  I forgot to look for soy milk yogurt but we decided to keep the refrigerator necessary foods to a minimun due to the size of the cooler we bought.

Hmm... if it's the same sort of stuff I'm thinking of, there's a filipino recipe that uses it. You can make sweet sticky rice cakes and coat them with coconut flakes and serve it with mangoes. :) I'll see if i can research it if it's the right one later today.

I just had some for the first time this weekend at a restaraunt here in NYC called "sticky rice", crazy.
I had the rice with garlic, stirfried veggies and it was delicious but the rice itself didn't taste that much different to me than regular rice so the possibilities are endless, can you maybe make some and then decide? I always like to test out recipe's first as i am not the greatest cook and it takes me a few to figure out the best combo's.
Good luck.  :)

I did some googling and looking through a whole bunch of links.  I found that a restaurant serves fish on a bed of purple sticky rice.  So I'm going to make Jacks Tofu Fish  http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=7651.0 and serve that over the rice with a nice large multi-veggie salad.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well, I made the purple sticky rice and the Jacks Tofu fish.  Neither one of them were too good.  I cooked the rice by the instructions but it didn't get sticky or even soft, it was very chewy.  Not what I was expecting.  The tofu fish just tasted like soy sauce.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.  I still have enough rice for one more meal.  Next time, I'm going to cook it like regular rice and not follow the instructions.  They said to use a 1:2 rice:water ratio,  boil uncovered for 10 minutes and take it off the heat and let it sit 10 minutes.  Not all the water was absorbed.  I still have to figure out what to serve with it next time.

I never made these personally, but they can be ground up and made into sweet rice balls. I love them served with some ginger syrup-like soup.
