Mushroom loaf?

Do any of you have a good, tested  recipe for a "meatloaf" made with mushrooms instead of meat, but NOT containing soy, tofu, TVP, nuts, etc. (due to either high prices or unavailability where I live).  Someone had given me such a recipe years ago, but I never did make it, and now I can't find it.

Most of the time, where I live, fresh mushrooms are not readily available, but someone just gave me about three pounds of them, and I would like to use some of them for a mushroom loaf, but only if it is a recipe that the person posting has tested, since I don't want to waste these.

Thanks!

Wow, Baypuppy- that is awesome!  Thanks for the link!

Thanks.  Not exactly what I would like to try right now, (not "tested" enough for this go-'round) but a truly interesting site.

Puppy, even if one doesn't have a fully written recipe, one still has an internal "recipe" from the idea of the proportions, look, texture, etc.  Could you, perhaps, try to write down something along those lines, with proportions/percentages if not exact amounts?

Thanks.

Thanks for the website, baypuppy! Now I can try all sorts of kooky loaf creations for dinner (althought pretty_in_punk's Awesome Loaf is a family favorite).  ;D

You can make mushroom "burgers"
or grill them, thick sliced or whole.
You can make mushroom soup,
use them in a stirfry,
chop and use them for pasta sauce instead of meat
make croquettes
or eat them in salad.

Just in case your loaf doesn't appeal.

Thanks, Pup.  Sounds interesting.

No eggs for binding it, though?

Since that uses only two cups of the mushrooms, and relies upon other things to add more volume, I should be able to try that AND some other ideas.  At least, that way, I won't be putting all my eggs (or shrooms, in this case) in one basket.

One other place I had already found a lot of good ideas (just not for a loaf), was http://www.cookingwithmushrooms.com/index.html.  They had a lot of innovative ideas that were different from the typical uses one sees.

Thanks again!

MD,

That magazine is not available here (at least not THIS part of Honduras - maybe in the two big cities, but they are 2.5 and 7.5 hours, respectively, by bus).

Pup,

Sorry.  I had forgotten that some people use them and some don't until AFTER I posted the message.

Thanks again.

BTW, wonders will never cease:  one of my local grocery stores actually had a soy-protein product, today, that seems like a TVP kind of thing, AND it is actually LESS expensive than beef.  All the similar products I ever saw in the States were always higher than what they were supposed to be replacing.

I bought a single, 4.25-oz package for L4.88, which is $0.258 (or about 98 cents per pound), and will have to see if it's any good.

Given that, I can now amend my original request to include TVP, so if any of you have any tried and true recipes for a mushroom loaf that does use TVP, those would be okay, too.

Thanks!
