Wow are those things the most gross things i have ever tasted inmy life. Is there anyone here that actually likes them? if so, i wanna shake your hand lol
Eek! :) I haven't tried them in a long time, but I thought they were okay... then again, it's been YEARS, so I suppose I don't crave them much.
My grandma gave me a recipe for "Split Pea Sausage" (essentially you cook split peas in water til they're a thick pottage, then add minced garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, thyme, and sage-- then let cool, form into patties and brown in very little fat). It's an old-fashioned accidentally vegetarian dish, but I liked it better than any packaged sausage... except maybe the Boca smoked sausages which seem no longer to be distributed in my area. :-\ Give that a try! You may like it!
i havent tried those...and i wont.
try gimme lean sausage by light life!
you can make sausage patties out of it...and it tastes pretty much just like a real sausage patty....i tried them for the first time last night..and i love them! it's vegan certified by vegan.org.

Heh. Fair enough!
I was pretty lukewarm about Gimme Lean when I tried it, too. I don't remember trying the sausage-- think I just tried the ground beefalike. Anyway, it was not my thang, but it was okay.
Isa's Tempeh Sausage Crumbles* put all the rest to shame! And her white bean & crumble gravy is fantastic! Oh my, I have some in the freezer I forgot about. Dinner is taken care of!
Ok, I like Gimme Lean, but it is highly processed & I find the sausage crumbles to be a healthier, yet just as tasty, replacement.

This made me laugh, recalling my own unpleasant experience with them...YUCK!
I never liked sausage when I was a meat eater so I can't imagine liking the fake ones!
*extends hand*
If I cook them right, I really like them. :-)
My kids really like them. They dip them in maple syrup. I pan fry them with a little water and oil until brown.
They're actually not that bad. I like to put them in breakfast sandwiches. They're usually better if you eat them with something else.
And the maple syrup thing is awesome. My favorite thing to do is cook up a bunch of Morning Star veggie bacon and then dip them in syrup. So good.

Okay, you guys are going to do it... I'm going to have to make pancakes and some kind of fake breakfast meat with syrup for dinner.
I think they're good if you do them in a pan..But I prefer their sausage patties. MSF is one of my fave brands! lol
i think the patties are scrumptious! i usually cook them up and eat them with scrambled tofu on whole wheat toast!
Oh, I do like the patties-- yum.
I agree. The links are gross. The Morning Star sausage patties are much better.
yeah patties are much better, my kids don't do well with any "fake meat" product but they actually eat the patties--- going veg has proved an enormous challenge. the links. . . well -- in a pan with some water to warm them up, then butter ::) to fry them & their 1/2 decent . . . for i anyway --- the children opt for grits & fruit instead
I was never a sausage eater even before going veg - the whole casing thing really grossed me out. I haven't tried MSF sausage tho. Plus, isn't there egg is most MSF products? I may be wrong..
