So I used to LOVE KFC....disgusting I know.....I drove past it yesterday and had a craving which got me wondering how close I could get with making my own at home. I've done my research and found what seems to be a close substitute to the real thing as far as the seasonings go but what do I use them on?? I'm fairly new to the world of tofu, seitan, tempeh, etc.....so could someone give me an idea as to how I should go about using these spices to create some mock KFC? I want fried chicken!! ::)
I would go for seitan... IF you can't find veggie chicken legs somewhere (asian market?)
And do what with it? I have YET to cook with seitan. :P I will check out our asian market today and see if by chance they have some vegan chicken. Thanks.
This is my family's favorite. I make the kids "Chicken Nuggets" with this recipe. Very easy to make.

Also, could you share your recipe for KFC. It use to be one of my favorites too!
I think maybe the Vegan Fried Chicken recipe from this site would be a good base for the seasonings.
Thanks for the suggestions!! Julia here is the recipe for the spices:
Ron Douglas shares the ingredients for his version of KFC's 11 herbs and spices recipe
— 1 teaspoon ground oregano
— 1 teaspoon chili powder
— 1 teaspoon ground sage
— 1 teaspoon dried basil
— 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
— 1 teaspoon pepper
— 2 teaspoons salt
— 2 tablespoons paprika
— 1 teaspoon onion salt
— 1 teaspoon garlic powder
— 2 tablespoons Accent
I'm gonna try it this week sometimes, please post your results!
I don't know if this is like a KFC recipe but I think this is a pretty good fried chicken recipe. I substitute it firm tofu.
I suggest you use the nutritional yeast, don't leave it out.
