Mock Fish

I want to make a fish-flavored tofu dish for my dad since he loves fish. Has anyone successfully tried mocking the taste of fish with tofu? I have kelp granules but I think I may need more ingredients. I saw a recipe on here that calls for lemon pepper, lemon juice, and pickle juice, in addition to Nori granules. (this sounds really salty!) Is Nori granules the same as kelp granules? ALso, are there any recipes for mock fish outside of vegweb?
Do a search for vegan or vegetarian fish. I did the other day, and found faux tuna (available in some areas) and tofu fish and chips (which really sounded impressive). Sorry I don't have any specific addresses, although I think one of the recipes was on veganfoods website under "meats"--which are all veggie. Good Luck!

There's a recipe on VegWeb for mock chicken using tofu. It's very simple-- I think it's just well-frozen and then thawed and squeezed tofu, lightly seasoned with tamari and baked or fried (I don't remember which, but I think baked). It has the reputation of being more fishlike than chickenlike... if you could find it, it might be what you're after. I'm having trouble turning it up.
Kelp granules or nori granules (they should be interchangeable, but I think most "kelp granules" are another variety?) should give it a sea flavor, if you so desire. But many fish dishes rely on the seasonings of the dish rather than the strong flavor of the fish to carry them, so tofu prepared in the manner of a fish dish might do the trick.
Veggie fish and chips, or a veggie "clam" chowder, or tofu with lemon and capers are all delicious.
I think you want to stick to adapting recipes for mild, white-fleshed fish or mild-flavored shellfish like clams and crab. You'll be disappointed if you try to replicate salmon.
i don't know about using tofu to make mock fish, but there is a local health food store in chinatown that carries an EXTENSIVE stock of mock meats. they have abolone, shrimp, crab legs, salmon and just generic fish nuggets/balls/steaks. all of the stuff is really incredible. they have a website (www.layonna.com) but it doesn't even begin to graze the surface of what they have in the store and i'm not even sure if you can order anything off the site
I shop May Wah store for veggie food they do carry veggie seafood. There web address is www.vegieworld.com Good Luck
