I need vegan salmon!

Funny, I can hardly remember what it tasted like...but I want it so badly! Not the dead animal taste, just the "salmon" taste. Right now google searches are yield recipes for vegan gravy with actual salmon. Vegan sushirolls with actual salmon. etc, etc. I know you can order the ready made stuff, but I'd much prefer to make my own. I saw a recipe for it online, once...but that was like a year ago and I didn't save it anywhere. Can anyone help me out?
if you're near an asian market, i found huge slabs of vegan fake fish at my old one, they had haddock, cod, salmon, tuna... everything that i remember. amazing.
sweet, I have not found one near me here, but there are some in portland...maybe my dad could pick some up...oh, how exciting!
there is an ad in the back of VegNews where you can order it
other than HH's obsession with the late tuno, i have never heard praise for fake vegan fish.
Find a recipe for a vegan version of sweet simmered miso, and spread it on some grilled tofu, then toast it in the broiler or toaster oven. I promise it will cure a salmon craving.
humm...now this i got to try...hey i might even have all the ingredients here to do it...tomarrow...or soemthing. Hehe.
Try this place in NYC. They make , sell, and ship all kinds of things.

I made this earlier today with just a few changes and after it chilled for a little bit, it was delicious! I'm not sure if it tastes like salmon, but it's worth trying.
Hey there,
I absolutely loooove the fishy flavor so typical of mackerel, tuna, etc. I keep a little pouch of Kombu Dashi powder in my spice cabinet. It's just powdered sea kelp, and I bought it at my local natural foods store. You can make dashi soup with it of course, but I love to marinate tofu in it! I add a tsp to a cup or two of water, throw in some soy sauce and lemon juice, and marinate the tofu for several hours (remember to press the tofu first). I cut the tofu block up into thin, square "steaks" before throwing it into the marinade. Cook the marinated tofu in a skillet with a little oil and mmm mmm delish! You can add more or less kombu dashi powder to get more fishiness if you like. I usually throw more lemon juice on top of the steaks once they're in the skillet, and a little pepper too. Not exactly like salmon, but a great way to get that fishy fix without going to the seafood market to buy a dead fish.
Hope you find the perfect remedy for your craving!
There's a mock salmon loaf recipe in the Simply Heavenly cookbook that I have at home. I made it once and to me it did taste like salmon. even though from the ingredients you wouldn't think it would! I think I posted it once before several months ago but I'll post it again if you want. I won't be home until after 6 pm today, though.

I just bought this thing called "sea seasonings, Organic Dulse Granules" i dont know if it is available everywhere...its local maine produce, so im not sure where all it is for sale. I have not tried it yet, but maybe that will have a similar effect as this Kambu Dashi powder you speak of? If not, ill look around and see if i can find that...good suggestion, though!
Try the dulse granules and let us know how it tastes! I don't know what the difference between dulse and kelp would be. You could also probably buy nori sheets (the seaweed sheets you use to wrap sushi rolls) and grind them up really finely in a dry blender? When I'm craving that fishy taste and want a fix right away, I snack on plain sheets of nori. The natural fishy taste of fish actually comes from algae (and thank goodness from a vegan point of view), so I would guess that either dulse (a red alga) or kelp (a green) in some powdery form would yield the desired results.
Give 'er a try!
