Hemp Milk?

Has anyone tried Hemp Milk? It is supposed to be really good for you, providing more Omega 3's & 6's. It has a lot more nutritional value than almond milk. I recently tried the "Hemp Dream" brand, and cannot get past the "seedy" aftertaste.
I do not like soy milk, LOVE almond milk, but I am quite concerned about not getting enough nutrition from almond milk. I guess my question is; Has anyone been drinking hemp milk for awhile now, and does the taste "grow" on you? Right now I can only tolerate it in grainy cereal with lots of fruit to mask the flavor!
I have tried hemp milk on a few occasions. In my experience, some brands are better than others. My favorite brand so far is "Living Harvest." I had a different brand (whose name I cannot remember), and it was truly awful. I could not even finish my cereal. So the best advice I can give you is to try different brands, and be patient, and hopefully the flavor will grow on you. All the hemp milks I have tried have had distinctly nutty flavors, which are difficult to mask, so I really don't buy it anymore. But if someone offered me a glass, I would most likely drink it.
I also recommend oat milk. It has more protein than almond milk, and is a great source of vitamins and minerals, most of which occur naturally in the oats. It is also good in fiber. Vanilla oat milk is my favorite, and it only has a subtle hint of oaty taste. It is good in tea, cereal, in baked goods, or just by itself.
I have had hemp milk and think that its really close in relationship to soy milk with texture and all.
I too prefer milk-subs that are not soy derived... since I eat my share of tofu and like to keep the soy down as best I can.
I love almond milk the best, and rice milk in a close second, though that's to taste and not for health... I'm not completely aware of the differences in vitamins and such... haven't noticed much reading the label..
I don't really like oat milk. I thought it was way too grainy and thick for my taste (though I might have just had a bad brand)
itd probably be fine for baked goods and stuff, but I couldn't handle it on its own or in cereal/coffee...
Hemp milk is sooo delicious! I've had the Living Harvest brand (picture below). It's incredibly rich, smooth, and tasty. I recommend this brand if you're choosing hemp milk.
yes, the hemp dream is hard to stomach, I am trying to 'make' myself like it for health purposes, (don't drink soy or almond, just rice,) but its yucky! the living harvest kind is somewhat better, if i only drink sips at a time. (this is so ironic because i have about 5 containers of hemp dream i got for super cheap on sale that I've been trying to force feed myself, but its not working that well....anyone have any ideas to hide the seedy taste? :P

Maybe mix a half of a container of it with a banana in a blender, and store it in a jug in the fridge. Banana's good at hiding flavors, to me. Is is flavored at all? I've only had the Living Harvest, which is awesome. Other than that, I like almond milk. Soymilk doesn't do it for me, and i think rice and oat are nasty.
oh! I just thought of another one--hazelnut milk. Hazelnut milk is sooo delicious, and it is sort of similar to almond milk, so maybe it would suit you better than the oat milk. Hazelnut milk is good in anything. I once made these hazelnut brownies, and used hazelnut flour, hazelnut milk, and actual chopped hazelnuts in them. They were so good, but that probably can't all be accredited to the hazelnut milk. The hazelnut taste isn't too strong, it's just enough to make it interesting.
oooh, I want to hazelnut... that's one I haven't tried!
reading these comments has made me really want to try hemp milk. i've had almond milk (yum, the chocolate), rice milk, and soy milk. i guess the reason why i've never tried hemp milk is because i once made hemp brownies and they tasted like i picked up a clump of dirt and ate it.
I started to like the vanilla type, and thought chocolate would be great. I had my HFS bring it in and it was awful. I agree with X MDV....ASS tasting. LOL!
I haven't had it in a while. I love the idea of mixing with banana first. Or maybe flavor it with chocolate yourself.
I also like Oatmilk and hazelnut milk!
I've always wanted to try hemp milk, but it is alot more expensive in the stores around here. My fav is almond milk and my least fav is rice milk.
I've been curious about hemp milk too. I just found a box of Hemp Dream on sale. I've yet to try it. I'll try to keep an open mind. I've been trying different brands of soy milk in order to find one to replace Silk. So far I've tried 8th Continent and another store brand but they are both very very sweet.
I have tried Harvest brand hemp milk (chocolate) and it wasnt bad. I dont mind soy milk but it took some time to get use to. never tried almond milk and rice milk is too watery for me.
so i stick with the soy milk (silk plain)
I LOVE Hemp milk. I use it in fruit smoothies/protein smoothies all the time. I love it on cereal. I always thought soy milk tasted like cardboard and the hemp milk doesn't taste that way to me. It is also as it is a little thicker so when using it in recipes, it is easier to control consistency.
I just made hemp milk in my Vitamix using this recipe (the lighter version):
http://veganfeastkitchen.blogspot.com/2009/03/easy-homemade-hemp-milk-and-how-to-use.html
I didn't strain it because I think the Vitamix got it smooth enough for my tastes....you just have to make sure to shake it really well before serving. I thought it was decent, but if you don't like hemp seeds, you won't like hemp milk (I don't think I would like the rich version as the light version has a strong enough hemp taste IMO). I think I like it better than store bought versions. The light version is comparable to soymilk in total protein content according to Bryanna's nutrition facts....though higher in fat (which is sorta the whole point...to get those omega-3 fats).
I'm going to try "fortifying" it with calcium by using the Vitamix to grind up a calcium supplement along with everything else. The recipe makes 6 servings, typical fortified "milks" have about 300 mg of calcium per serving which would mean grinding up about 3.5 500 mg pills for the whole batch...has anyone ever tried this in their Vitamix? I think the Vitamix will have no problem getting it smooth and as long as I shake it up well before pouring I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.
I wish I had a vitamix to make my own milks....
:(
by the way, does hemp milk have more protein than soy milk?

I'm not sure if it has more protein than soy milk, but it definitely has more health benefits than almond milk. Hemp milk has 4 grams of protein versus 1 gram of protein in almond milk. So I guess it is worth the taste!
This weekend I made my own hemp milk using the same recipe as Hopfrog. I don't have a VitaMix, but my blender worked just fine. I threw in a whole vanilla bean and sweetened it with Stevia. It does have a "nutty" taste that takes some getting used to. It's super creamy, so I might add extra water next time to tone down the taste. I would make it again though! Here's what mine looked like:

I've tried the Living Harvest brand and thought it tasted pretty good. They make an unsweetened variety that I'd like to get my hands on. Hemp Dream is gross IMHO.

I would assume that if you had homemade hemp (or anything really) milk, and didn't strain it (as much) you'd get a lot more benefits from it too.
Another benefit of the vitamix with that one, as I've heard it doesn't leave the graininess.
